Mangalore: One Held in Connection to Attack on TV9 office

Mangalore, Jul 24: The Kadri police have arrested on Monday night a person in connection with the attack on TV9 news channel office on Sunday, July 22 night.

The arrested person has been identified as Lalit S Rao. He was arrested at Lady Hill at about 8.30 pm on Monday. He was produced in court, which remanded him to judicial custody till August 6.

Neeta Rao, wife of Lalit Rao, is working in a furniture shop in Bharat Mall. A shot for the crime story of porno racket on TV9 happened to show the couple returning home from Bharat Mall. This clipping was beamed in the crime story, which led many people to get a mistaken impression that the couple was involved in the racket.   Hence, Lalit Rao attacked TV9 office and assaulted reporter Rajesh Rao.

The police began the investigations on the basis of the mobile number, through which he called the TV9 cameraman and threatened about the attack. The police are successful in arresting the miscreant within a day.

    TV 9 deserves punishment, the strictest at that for implying innocent people. since they might pull some strings if there were to be a case, a long winded one , Mr Rao thought about attacking the office. even though it was stupid of him, tv9 needs the stick. How can you imply the public. A name once tarnished cant be repaired through a few apologies on the tv.  tv9 needs to be punished by the authorities.

    If this couple is totally unrelated to the actual scandal reported- I can understand the plight of this couple. Where is media showing accountability for misrepresentation ? I think media and all the organisations that were first to protest on the attack should also be the first to criticize TV9 for misrepresenting this couple in their footage.

    I personally feel media has never shown acctountability beyond printing illegible corrigendum on the remote sections of newsprint -
