Missionaries of Charity may shut down 13 orphanages

Kolkata, Oct 9 (DHNS): Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity may shut down thirteen orphanages run by them as the government is planning to derecognise them.

These orphanages had refused to give its children to single and separated people for adoption.

Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister Maneka Gandhi said on Thursday, Missionaries of Charity has refused to comply with the provisions related to adoptions by single, separated or divorced people, as reported in Hindustan Times.

“They have cited ideological issues with the adoption guidelines of the country but we are persuading them because they are valuable, good people and have experience," said Maneka Gandhi.

It all started when the Central Adoption Resource Authority received complaints from two single parents from Assam and Bihar. The single parents complained that they were not allowed to adopt children from the orphanages of Missionaries of Charity.

It is being reported that the Missionaries of Charity itself has written to the Central Adoption Resource Authority seeking de-recognition of some of its orphanages.

It is better to close rather to disrespect Constitution....but bad for orphans.
...orphans exists because some decided (parents mainly) they are unwanted and burden. Orphanages at least give them a shelter and show them they are wanted and worth to be loved.
Church served orphanages cannot again give orphan children in the hands of homosexuals, single parents, divorced and adulterers otherwise the same children would be a victim for all the time. That is why it is necessary for the orphanages to know about the Parties approaching adoption.
When it comes to human values and life, the Church chooses humanity and respecting the constitution as well. But cannot compromise the commandments & family virtues of Christianity, that is why respectfully agree to close instead of disregard to the constitution. Missionaries have to bound with both family virtues and constitution. Even the Church passed the testing time always comes to human lives challenges such as abortion, divorce, mercy killing, etc.
Let the Govt. undertake all the orphanages, old age homes, etc. Constitutionally...

Catholic faith and church build on value and principles of family life. Accordingly missionaries cannot give orphan children in the hands of homosexuals, single parents, divorced and adulteress who do not possess the kingdom of God. Catholic church and its teaching stood firm even if all the orphan homes need to be closed.

Guys..!! Please do not blame anyone without knowing actual issue here..

Missionaries refused to give children up for adoption to single, divorced, homo sexual or separated people, citing the religious bottleneck. Indian constitution does not allow that since 1975. In fact any financially and mentally sound citizen of India can adopt a orphan. It does not matter if he is a married or separated..

Despite of whatever rumors, we have a great respect to this Organization. Kind request for them is to respect the constitution rules for adoption..

Rest of the readers... please do not use wrong statements here

I this case The Missionaries of Charity have the option to decide in favor or against the adoption of the children by others. It sad that their years of labour are lost by their having close down their thirteen orphanages.

    No politics pls...

Adoption procedure and framework exists for over a decade now.

You will know the trouble one needs take to adopt and also the time taken is quite a lot.

Great respects to all those who provide shelter. Kids are gifts of god and they can be part of those families who are incomplete.

Reforms are required and its good if all comply. Kids who don not have homes can find one and can make way for those kids who are on street.

    Let goodness prevail, not politics.

It is very sad to note that the Missionaries of Charity are forced to shut down orphanages. May be it will be good to gather the real experience of the Sisters of Charity. When Government interferes with the smooth functioning of the orphanages for their selfish gains especially the so called some of the politicians things become very difficult to function. I hope the needy children will find a place to live so that they are loved and cared for to become responsible citizens.

Another case of BJP government interfering with charities run by other faiths, I would suggest to close all christian institutions and see what they are going to do afterwards.

Infants are so much dependent on genuine care takers, either parents or good Samaritans until they get to adolescent age.. when they grow up not everyone appreciate the role of their parents or others.
when missionaries arrived in India whole country was dependent on them for education and healthcare right from 18th century.
now India is getting richer and educated(middle class and ruling class) they no longer appreciate the missionary work, no one appreciates the sacrifices and dedication where half of India still lacks genuine healthcare and education.

A communal govt. The govt is trying to prove its fanatism. in the the end only the orphans will be the main sufferror. Others are blindly supporting this govt just to prove their hypocricy and fantism. this govt is not doing anything for removing misery of children used in child labour, begging, children raped, killed, child trafficking , etc. first let the govt provide if not luxuries atleast basic needs to all the poor and orphaned and abondoned children and then speak about derecognising.

The orphans need love and care. In the absence of biological parents, they need both the guardians and not just one parent/guardian. Hence, I very much feel, the orphans to be adopted by parents without issue and not single parent.

Street talk: Jab tuglakh jinda hai tho woh kyun aapna naam saadak ko rakkega?

One can see the feku's tuglakh darbar in real sense these days. These are just instances. Hundreds of poor kids are going to pay a price for some selfish political objectives. Really shocking and sad for the kids.

Shock.I do say what the missionary did is correct, refusing single and divorce People adapting These orphan children why should children fall from hot pan to fire?it is not a intact Family they will be getting when go to single and diversed. There they will be more alone and who knows their activity? In the first place ,govt.is self against such Organisation, saying conversion etc.I only feel for the children and inmates when really closed.when These People want to adapt why cant they go to another organisations where there are enough orphans.Hope everything will go normal again. It will be a big shock to Indians as well inmates.
