London: With houseful show, 'Dhand' Tulu movie creates record in UK

Media Release

London, Oct 9: Sandhya Creations' second venture 'Dhand' has created history, becoming the first Tulu movie to witness a successful houseful show in the UK. The movie was screened at Piccadilly Cinemas, Leicester on Saturday October 3 at 12 noon, thus adding one more feather to its team's cap. 'Dhand' had a record two shows in Australia too recently.

It was a joint effort of a few like-minded Mangalurean fans of Tulu in the UK who joined hands to bring 'Dhand' for Tuluvas here. Those who worked hard for that included owner of Tharavadu Restaurant Prakash Mendonca, Tulu community representatives Varun Shetty, Prathvi Shetty, Santosh Rai, Mangalorean United Konkani Association (MUKA) UK's John Peter Fernandes, with the leadership of dynamic and active Santhan Achunala who co-ordinated with producer Shodhan Prasad in Dubai throughout.

Tuluvas from different parts of the UK arrived by bus and vehicles arranged by organisers and also there were snacks and lunch arranged for them. The show started exactly at 12 noon with loud cheers of 'Jai ho Dhand' from many families including children who were shouting with joy even before the screen could open. Actor Sandeep Shetty's fans whistled continuously as they watched his entry on the screen.

There was a loud sigh of joy as the film concluded, and for the first time Tuluvas in the United Kingdom could sit and enjoy a beautiful Tulu movie in the theatre.

As the movie ended and people came out of the theatre, producer Shodhan Prasad had a live interaction through video chat from Dubai. Everybody cheered and said it was an 'awesome movie' and much more than what they expected. "Good direction by Ranjith Bajpe, the storyline with a social message and soulful music was equal to a Bollywood movie," said some. Most of them thanked the producer and the organisers for bringing such a beautiful movie to them. Everybody requested for more such movies in future and also wanted 'Nirel' movie to be screened in the UK soon. The news reached other groups in the UK and they are planning for another show of 'Dhand' in London soon.

Organisers arranged a party for everybody soon after the show and there they were together humming Sonu Nigam's song in the movie 'Ninna Thelikenu Kannu Muchhidu Kana Kattudu Vora Thuye'.
