Mangalore: Kanhangad-Kaniyur Rail Line Linking DK and Kerala Proposed

Mangalore / Sullia, Jul 29: While the MP, MLAs and several other people’s representatives have failed in providing rail connectivity to Sullia, it has so happened that an organisation from Kerala has sent a proposal to the Railway Ministry for Kanhangad-Kaniyur railway connectivity through their MP.
Kerala Malenadu Abhivriddhi Samiti struggled for highway construction in Malenadu region about two years ago. It has submitted a proposal for a rail route from Kanhangad to Chennai via Panatoor-Madikeri-Mysore and is now conducting survey for its new proposal to link Kanhangad to Bangalore through Kaniyur.
The committee has surveyed 80 km area from Kanhangad to Kaniyur through Panatoor-Kallapalli-Sullia-Bellare and sent a report to Central Railway minister through Kasargod MP P Karunakaran proposing to provide rail connectivity on this route.
The committee members inform that if a tourist wants to visit the famous Bekal Fort, then he would have to travel 808 kms on the Bangalore-Shornoor route.
But if the proposed route becomes functional then he would have to travel only 373 kms, reducing 435 kms. If this project materialises, then it would certainly help Kerala-Karnataka border areas such as Panatoor, Karike, Kallapalli and Bellare and entire picture of Sullia taluk will be changed.
All that needs to be done now is that our MP, MLAs have to join their hands for the success of the project for the common good.
The people dwelling in the border region who are constantly on a fight for their state, language and culture, are now hoping that this project might just turn out to be a programme promoting harmony in the border region.
In this direction, the Kerala Malenadu Samiti and Karnataka Malenad people have to work together.
