Mangaluru: DGCEI regional unit completes one year in city

Mangaluru, Oct 17: The Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI), which is the apex intelligence agency under the Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) for combating evasion of Central Excise Duty and Service Tax, has established its regional unit at Mangalore, on October 15, 2014.

DGCEI is the arm of Central Board of Excise & Customs which focuses on the anti evasion work of Central Excise duty and Service Tax. This Regional Unit has spearheaded the anti-evasion activities in the jurisdiction consisting of Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagalur, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysore and Shimoga districts.

The Regional Unit has successfully completed one year of its operations at Mangalore. During this period the Unit has detected 21 cases involving Central Excise duty/Service Tax evasion amounting to Rs 625 lac and recovered an amount of Rs 538 lac.

DGCEI appeals to the public to come forward and report any instances of Service Tax/Central Excise duty evasion.

The informers who provide credible information resulting in detection of duty evasion will be suitably rewarded upto 20% of the duty evaded as per the government guidelines from time to time.
