Oct 19 (Mumbai Mirror): The Tardeo police have arrested three resident doctors of the state-run JJ Hospital for drunk driving early on Sunday. The doctors have also been charged with misbehaving with the traffic police.

According to the Tardeo police, Dr Ved Raveesh was driving the car when he was stopped at a nakabandi on Tardeo road. Dr Raveesh was accompanied by two other doctors - Shiv Mahendra and Rahul Jain. The doctors are first-year residents and are pursuing medicine, radiology and orthopedics.

The incident took place around 3 am on Sunday. According to the police sources, the traffic police asked the driver and the other passengers to step out of the vehicle and follow the procedure to check if they were in an inebriated state. However, they resisted and began arguing with the traffic police, after which they were taken to the local police station.

The doctors have been booked under section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act and 353 of the Indian Penal Code.

S Jaykumar, deputy commissioner of police, zone 3, said, "We have registered the offence against the three doctors. They were produced before a holiday court and have been remanded in police custody for a day."

Dr TP Lahane, dean of JJ Hospital, said he was looking into the matter. "I came to know that the doctors have hit a police officer. I will decide the further course of action."
