Mumbai, Oct 20: “There was a time when rural sports were not getting the required prominence in the country. It has changed now and encouragement to rural sports is becoming a reality. The attempts should continue. The one day Kabaddi tournaments are conducive for the sport to reach Olympics. The sport can grow on a global level when the government supports it,” opined speaker of legislative council, D H Shankeramurthi.






































He spoke after presiding over the concluding programme of the annual one day Kabaddi tournament 2015 and giving away prizes to the winning teams at Mulund Jymkhana, Mulund east on Sunday October 18.

Karnataka government legislative council chief whip R V Venkatesh was the chief guest. Guests of honour local MLA Sardar Tara Singh, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Dakshina Kannada district president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, APCC environment division president Ashok Rao More, APCC chief secretary Rajan Bonsle, Congress leader Jayaprakash Shetty, social workers Shiva Moodigere, Kalathuru Vishwanatha Shetty, Nilesh B Poojary Palimaru, sports persons Jithesh Shirvadkar, journalists Aful Ira and Supreeth Shetty Mangaluru were present.

Mulund friends president Suresh Shetty Yeyyadi welcomed the gathering. Ashok Pakkala and Dinesh Ira compered the programme. Diwaker Shetty Mangalapadi gave commentary in different languages and got praised by sports lovers. Out of sixteen teams that participated in the tournaments, Meera Bhayander B team won first prize and the trophy. Bunts Meera Bhayandar C team won second prize and Ashirwad Mafe team won third prize. They were presented Rs 33,333, Rs 22,222 and Rs 11,111 respectively. Kalva friends team was selected as a disciplined team and awarded Rs 5,555 and a memento.

Treasurer Venugopal Shetty Ira, joint secretary Yuvaraj Shetty, joint treasurer Naveen R Hegde, advisor Subhash Alva, organizing secretary Udaya Shetty Kantavara and members present on the occasion cooperated towards the success of the tournament.
