CM promises end to power woes by March

Bengaluru, Oct 21 (DHNS): Karnataka, which is under a severe power crisis, will have little to worry by March 2016, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has assured. Presently, Karnataka has a power deficit of 2,000 MW. By March, it is expected to generate 2,300 MW more, he added.

Addressing the gathering at the 46th Foundation Day of the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) here on Tuesday, he said the power crisis was the result of several units of the existing power plants not working to their full capacity. “We expect some of the dysfunctional units to resume functioning soon.”

The chief minister conceded that people in all parts of the State were complaining about daily power cuts. He said some units in thermal plants were more than two decades old and the technology needed to be upgraded.

“We have to ensure these units do not go to repairs frequently,” he said, adding that Karnataka needs to look at power generation keeping in mind the demand over the next five to ten years. KPCL Managing Director M Maheshwar Rao also said that all units of power plants must run at their optimum. On the occasion, the KPCL presented awards to its staff who have worked for it for 25 years or more.

all drama... if anybody visits our Sharavathi power plant at Jog falls.. you will realize how powerful the generators are. It's around 6 to 7 ( or still more ) generators there out of which only 2 are working I guess. Just get those repaired and that will get us excess power which we could be selling to other states also.... nobody wants this alternate , they want alternate of buying power from other states which will in turn fill their pockets also.
