About Devadigas Dubai

"We are very glad to have completed 23 years in the Emirates and are one of the oldest community organizations here. Formed in 1992, the main objective was to provide a platform for the active members and create an opportunity to exhibit their talent, build comradeship among the fellow folks who are far away from home and family. It was a platform to unite the community members and to share and nurture the ancient values of culture and traditional values. The aim also was to extend support to the new members who come to the UAE in search of jobs and help them during emergencies," says Harish Sherigar.

The education fund in the form of fixed deposit was formed for the less fortunate children. Every year under the guidance of Mangalore Sangha more than thousands of financially needy students and achievers avail the opportunity to study in their chosen fields. "Each year we contribute to this fund from the donations received from members so as to help more and more students under the umbrella of this scholarship fund. Over the years we have distributed more than 75 lakhs Rupeesin the form of scholarships, book distributions, medical help, sponsoring school and professional education to some individual children and building houses for the needy. This process is on and year after year we are more than happy to continue this drive with this unique programme," he adds.

Over the years the association has felicitated its community members from back home who have excelled in various fields - former union minister Dr M Veerappa Moily, saxophonist Moodbidri Gopalakrishna Devadiga, neurosurgeon Dr K V Devadiga, director of SDM College Dr Devaraj K, former vice-chancellor of Kuvempu University Prof B S Sherigara, to name a few. Harischandra Devadiga and and Anand Devadiga were chosen from here to be felicitated, being founder members/advisors, for their service to the community.

The association organizes annual events, blood donation camps, cookery competitions, sports events and picnics wherein all the members and new members assemble and share their time and celebrate the occasion.

All the very best for the program and it’s a great platform to present your culture, tradition and above all an opportunity to unite all Devadigas together in a foreign country which will add flavor to the program.

UAE has become like olden time India where we could enjoy all festivals with pride, honor, fun & enjoyment. We also can see lot many non-Muslims joining us for breaking the fast (Ifthar). Being a Muslim, I remember we use to go for the Jain festival at Moodabidri, Doopadakatte Saanthmaari, Kadri festival etc. It was indeed great fun and likewise our non-Muslim friends use to visit us during our Eid. But nowadays, festival season means a period of tension and a lot of uncertainties.

Hope and pray that, we get our old India back and we all Indians enjoy peaceful atmosphere all around.

All the best for the program. Please split the stage program in 3 to 4 segment. Always we see that the charm of the best part of the program is taken away by lengthy stage programs. Stage programs should be planned in such a way that people should not feel bored. Great Initiative by Devadigas Dubai.
