Mangalore: Something to Relish - a 'Non-veg' Vegetable Dish

Mangalore, Aug 1: Many a time, one comes across vegetables and fruits in the shape of birds, animals or human face, why even resembling deities. It is customary to send such pictures to the media so that the novelty can be shared with other readers.

A common, delicious vegetable, 'suvarnagadde' in Kannada and 'sooran' in Konkani, grown in the coastal districts normally comes in roundish shape. However, a tuber found by Juliana Menezes in her field in Herikudru, Kundapur had so much of a resemblance to a tortoise.

Not to miss an opportunity, Daijiworld reader Sphoorty Fernandes clicked it from various angles. Now it looks as if a tortoise itself was clicked during its movement from one place to the other.

By the way, poaching a tortoise for the sake of a delicious dish could violate the conservation laws. So why not settle for its lookalike?
