Udupi: Sorake inaugurates 'Parivartana' rehabilitation centre

Udupi, Oct 24: "The medical practitioners should always aim at infusing confidence and courage in the minds of their patients. Just providing psychological support and encouragement has the potential of curing almost 50 percent of the ailments. At a time when people involved with medical field too are looking for easier ways and means to carry on with their profession, I appreciate the fact that some of them have envisioned a new venture, 'Parivartana' which is aimed at serving people with psychological disorders. This task needs a lot of self-restraint and patience," said district in-charge minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake.






















The minister spoke after inaugurating 'Parivartana' centre for rehabilitation and deaddiction centre set up under the aegis of Shrimatha Hospital at Chitrapadi near Kota in the taluk.

He also expressed his happiness that an institution guided by a noble cause for treating people with psychological problems has been started here and thought that it was in fitness of things that this facility is coming up at Kota, which has earned global recognition because of Dr Shivaram Karanth.

Anand C Kunder of Geetananda Trust, Kota, presided over the function. Manasmita Foundation was inaugurated by Nadoja Dr G Shanker, founder of G Shankar Family Trust, on this occasion. Manasmita Mental Health Ward was inaugurated by Dr Chandrashekhar, secretary of Karnataka State Mental Health Authority. Free mental health camp was inaugurated by Lions district governor, Sridhar Shenava.

In his keynote address, vice chancellor of Amity University Noida, K B Kumar, noted that everyone expects a person suffering from any sort of ailment to completely recover from it. "In case of mental problems too, this expectation holds good. But mental condition cannot be corrected with tablets alone. It is possible to cure mental disorders by extending psychological support and instilling a sense of confidence on a continuous basis through rehabilitation," he stressed.

MLC, Kota Srinivas Poojary, released the pamphlet of 'Parivartana'. MLA, Halady Srinivas Shetty, former MLA, Basavaraju, sessions judge of Kundapur, Rajashekhar Patil, Udupi A V Baliga Hospital psychiatrist, Dr P V Bhandary, Brahmavar Vijaya Bank senior manager, Susheela Poonja, president of Saligrama town panchayat, Sadhu and Kotathattu gram panchayat president, Pramod Hande participated as chief guests.

Director of 'Parivartana' Rehabilitation Centre, Dr Satish Poojary, welcomedthe gathering. Director of the centre, Dr Prakash C Tolar, delivered the introductory address. Directors of the centre, Savita P Tolar and Neha S Poojary were present.
