Mangaluru, Oct 26: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) unit of Cordel Church, Kulshekar, on Sunday October 25 presented an enthralling 'Cordel Musical Extravaganza', a musical nite to raise funds for the construction of houses for the poor and homeless, at Cordel Church premises here.

Addressing the gathering, ICYM national adviser Raymond D'Souza said, "ICYM has over the years strived to help in all activities and now it is also taking up a social cause. A person's identity is dependent on where he stays. You may eat or sleep anywhere, but if you do not have a house, you do not belong anywhere. A house is the most important thing that you can ever give a needy."

Roy Castelino, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy said, "ICYM is doing a great job here. You get satisfaction when you help a needy or a poor person. There is no greater happiness than helping the poor."

Fr Victor Machado in his presidential address said, "When you are on a journey, do not look back. Look at your destination and move forward. If there any function at your house, and you spend money on it, try to keep a little money aside for helping someone also. What the ICYM members have started should be continued in the future by others also."

A model of a house was unveiled on this occasion by the guests.

The audience were treated to a delightful evening of popular, peppy numbers by a host of singers. Singers Ashwin D'Costa, Prajoth D'Sa, Royston Pinto and Rynel Sequiera were felicitated by the dignitaries in recognition of their achievements. People who sponsored the event were honored with mementos.

Cordel Musical Extravaganza co-ordinator Manfred Lobo welcomed the gathering. ICYM secretary Vernon Crasta proposed the vote of thanks.

Cordel Church assistant priests Fr George Crasta, Fr Anil Lobo, Govlik Parishat members Praveen Patrao and Michael D'Souza, Noel D'Souza, Sr Anna Maria, ICYM Cordel unit president Ancita D'Souza, Konkani activist Eric Ozario and Joyce, Elias Fernandes, Melwin Peris and others were also present.
