Mangalore, Aug 3: Tense situation prevailed for quite sometime in Gajanana Ice Plant in Bolar here on Friday August 3 afternoon after ammonia leakage was reported from the plant.

Ammonia was found to be leaking from the main valve at the said ice plant, as the plant operator forgot to shut main valve.

The fire brigade rushed to the spot on receiving the telephone call at 3.15 pm, about the leakage. Shekhar Kottari, fire brigade expert in handling hazardous chemicals, entered the plant with the breather attached to oxygen cylinder.  He successfully shut the main valve of the ammonia supply. It was only then that the ammonia leakage was stopped.

Sources also said that fire brigade personnel struggled almost for 45 minutes to bring situation under control and stop the leakage.
