Mangaluru: Zinger of discovery - Worms found in KFC burger

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Oct 26: In a gut-wrenching news, two worms were reportedly found in a burger at popular food joint KFC in City Centre Mall here on Monday October 26.

Prashant and his fiancee Deekshitha had been to KFC late Monday evening. Deekshitha ordered KFC''s Zinger burger, and after eating almost half of it, she reportedly found two worms in the burger.

Speaking to daijiworld, Prashant said that he complained to the KFC outlet manager. "The manager told me not to file any complaint. However, I informed the health inpsector and tomorrow (Tuesday Ocober 27) I will file a formal complaint," he said.

Deekshitha told daijiworld that when the KFC staff were told about the worms, they did not give any satisfactory response and evaded her queries. "I found the worms moving in the burger. They asked us not to take photos of the worms, but I did it anyway. When we pay so much, they should ensure that the food is hygienic," she said.

She also said that she is planning to move the consumer court over the issue.

Speaking to daijiworld, KFC outlet manager said that the worms must have come from the vegetables used in the burger.

" Gut wrenching news " what a blown up adjective - this is exactly as the proverb says " making a mountain of a mole "
KFC is right it does happen inadvertently in any food that comes to our plate at home or in a restaurant - i think its the lack of patience that is showing !! I do understand the sentiments if the guests were to be staunch vegetarians - but even then a little understanding is missing !!!!

Even on my recent visit with my mother to BBQ nation in mak mall on the 15th of Oct.
While she was serving herself the main course salads and on beginning to eat the same.
She found a live worm come out from the lettuce while putting the fork into it.
On calling the manager he was apologizing and refused to take payment for me meal.
My point is how many such worms are eaten unnoticed!!!

    Just great what you said...!!
if in India, as you say cleaner food... I think you are running a restaurant!!! That has prompted you to comment the way you have.
The vegetable (single or mixed) curries using various vegetables are cut with great speed and without much rinsing. As such all the beetles\insects\maggots\worms etc go directly in the pot either chopped or whole and only solace for the devourer is that such things are cooked. If fresh veg. salad is served definitely such moving creatures can be found.
If one has a look at the kitchens of most of the vegetarian and Non veg. restaurant... you yourself see and tell me "frankly" how clean they are...

Here, whole world will be shaken while seeing such instances. But the great personality called "Food inspector", he will not be bothered at all. For him it's a small issue and will be on papers, that's it. He is clear that nothing will be done and zero impact on him and his job. It's his duty to visit each and every outlets , at least give a surprise visit and ensure the quality of the food served. Forget about this instance, or else also, these officers never found 'executing' their duties. there are a lot of small small restaurants opened at the road sides in Mangalore. Will those be able to adhere to the food authority rules and regulations. Definitely NO. but still no action, no penalties ... nothing. Pity on ourselves to have such a stupid system....

    Vinayak,

Any food consumed in extreme can cause obesity. I find it quite amusing that many straight away attack a MNC, but they dont say anything about local food. Most of our food is oily or some are sweet. If you really want to ban unhealthy foods then you have to ban literally every thing. By the way do you know how much of pesticide does your vegetable bought locally contain???

This is one incident. We all who eat in restaurants in Mangalore feel this pinch once at least. I had my share more than once.
Once in Mallikatta Hotel, flying ants were flying inside and they were still serving food.
Do anyone thinks about drinking water, from which borewell it is pumped out. Raw sewer drain flows next to borewells and water is pumped out and supplied in Tankers.Pumping hoses are dragged in dust and dirt on road side, and then lowered into water storage tank of customers. When informed about it to Health officers,ZERO result. Ground around the Well is completely Saturated and enters the water bed. Still none cares after informing authorities.
Kitchen worker was sweating like He had shower, still molding food item in kitchen of well know hotel in Kodialbail.
Hotel needs Health Certificate, but some items are made elsewhere in filthy surrounding and served in Hotel which is well known.
Near almost all college surrounding areas road side food vendor is selling food which is covered in dust and dirt. Man goes to nature call and comes back and serves food.

    Worms came from the vegetable,

and also the vegetables came from the farms too..........lol.

Am very sure there are lots of worms, cockroaches, insects inside the KFC kitchen there, which is running only on false pretentiousness.

I still remember those days when my mother used to bring leaves to make pothrade, she used to look for worms thoroughly, she was telling us that some worms are poisonous and even while cooking leafy vegetables she was telling us to wide open our eyes. i request all the outlets to switch on dim lights like bar and restaurants, so that these worms are not visible. simple idea.

Ashaming .when they serve Food such as burger supposed to in the first place to prepare and then give out.Means burger get ready and one by one top it salat ,meat etc.when already kept ready the salat or tomato will Change shape look like boiled.Important ,the Worms are not from salat.because Worms from salat are green .They can tell Storys to somebody else. These are from meat.when no proper Hygiene is not there in warm climate flys are fast to attach meat and lay eggs.may be Worms were inside, meat was from not warmed up properly. Now the KFC.will have to pay compensation to them if complained and win.sad.

well done prashanth. why did manager told not to take picture of the worms. any hotels and small restaurants are being routine checked by food inspector. these inspectors take money and not examine anything and give clean report of the eateries. i advice to all people not to have anything from out. atleast you can cook at home and eat with the family. these kfc and other eateries only for money and they can't afford to give pay for the employees.they just expired items keep in the refrigerator for months and serving by cooking.even oil once used kept and fill in a can and reuse it. now a days eating outside is a fashion but people don't go to care what happens to health.kfc is a money making business.
