Mandya, Oct 27: In a rare and unusual robbery, the robbers convicted by a judge took revenge by stealing at his house.

The incident happened at Somanahalli near Pandavpur in Mandya district on the early morning of Monday, October 26.

A gang of ten robbers entered the house of justice S Shivappa who retired as the Supreme Court judge. He had served in various courts as judge before that. The robbers managed to take cash and jewellery worth Rs 1.25 lac, it is estimated. Sadly the judge, his wife Vijayalakshmi and house nurse Mamatha, who was looking after the elderly couple, were assaulted by the thieves.

It was around 3.15 in the morning when the robbers entered the judge’s house through the roof. They got the access to the roof from the railway track side of the house. The judge who was woken up by the sound, tried to phone someone, but the robbers snatched the phone from him and assaulted him. When his wife and house nurse came to his rescue, the robbers put cloths in the mouths of women and sealed their mouths by plaster. Then they tied them with ropes and wires.

“You have convicted many people during your service as a judge. You have convicted us also. Now we have come to punish you. Tell us where you have kept your valuables?“One of the robbers shouted at the judge. They tried to break the locker but failed to do so. They took cash and jewellery from the almirah. Then they took the jewellery which Vijayalakshmi was wearing and the chain and ring, the judge was wearing.

Before fleeing with the loot, the robbers tied the judge with the lungi he was wearing.

The identity of the robbers is not yet known. The judge and his wife have been admitted to a private hospital in Mysuru.
