Mangaluru International airport to get major facelift

Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Oct 30: Mangaluru International Airport will get a new control tower, a parallel taxi way and a primary radar very soon.

This was revealed by airport director J T Radhakrishna in a press meet at Mangaluru International Airport here on Thursday October 29.

Radhakrishna said that the installation of the new radar will help in safe take-off and landing of airplanes even during bad weather. The airport has already procured the equipment and the work to install it will commence in the New Year in a separate building.

At present there are six parking bases at the airport. Work to construct three more will be completed by June next year. Two additional parallel taxiways will be constructed by March next year which will help in operation of more flights. The work on the exit road too will be completed by January.

Radhakrishna also said that the air traffic has increased by 20 per cent in the last six months with a total of 13 lac passengers travelling during this period. The airport has started operating a new daily Jet Airways flight to New Delhi at 7.30 am from October 25. Currently, 23 average airplanes operate from and to Mangaluru with 50 trips. The passenger traffic is expected to cross 15 lac this year.

The extension of a runway will be done subject to the procurement of land. The state government help has been sought in this regard. A request has also been made to the government to develop the road from the Konkan railway bridge till Maravoor.

World Quality Commitment (WQC) Award

Mangaluru International Airport was awarded the World Quality Commitment (WQC) award at Paris, France and Radhakrishna received the award on October 25.The award was presented by the Business Initiative Directions (BID) and the criteria of quality, leadership and excellence have been taken into consideration. The BID has recognised the airport based on the data provided by the Airport Council, and has presented the award based on the Total Quality Management model QC 100 of the airport. During the last year, the customer satisfaction index has improved from 4.35 to 4.82. Also, the airport has been given 4.92 points out of 5 in cleanliness.

Well done, Air Traffic is improving and Director and officials are planning improvement.Did Authorities carried our Projected Passengers Traffic study for the Next 10-20 years?
That is what required when u plan the Expansion and improvement. A Master plan for the next 20 years.
I do agree with readers comments about settlement on the Road at the approach road. It will gradually increase and one day suddenly the road will collapse. I hope immediate action would be taken.
Also the Luggage collection area for international Flights should be redesigned. It is totally congested at the moment. Even passengers cannot get down from escalators.
We have to appreciate good work done by the director along with Constructive inputs.

They woke up last minute and made a luggage belt most unscientific and like a sharing bachelor room of Gulf!! What do you say.....Mr.airport director J T Radhakrishna !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for this you need British: or German:Japanese or the Singaporeans..
    for the future..state of art.
bring in experts ..keep all politicians away from this project...
keep professionals .experts only till complete..
Even the Army can help build the needed infrastructure.. tunnels etc.
Plan like Dubai.. France: London Heathrow: Frankfurt: in the making..

The exit road from the terminal has already taken 2 yrs. It will take another year with the pace it is going through.

Also I would like to know as to why only taxi's are allowed to park next to the terminal ( fly over )and not private cars ?? Is the taxi mafia controlling the airport ?? Can we get an answer ??

Yesterday someone was asking why no improvement in Mangalore Airport - here is the answer.

By the way, Mangalore is among the top 5 fast growing airports in India, beating southern competitors like Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Madurai & Northern airports like Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Amritsar!!

It is proud to say us that the Mangalore International airport is benefiting neighbour state Kerala also coz Kasargod passengers are benefiting from this airport not only illegal activities but also excellent service to Haj pilgrims by connecting from Calicut to Jeddah International Airport. Further we express our will to travel from mangalore to Jeddah directly as per your count of passenger will increase because of Umrah and Haj pilgrims with other regular passengers who were now travelling via Mumbai International Airport.

Good Work. congratulations to the airport authority.
As it is said international airport some things are yet to be improved.
    1. A good runway to land Boeing flights
    2. Maintenance around the airport like park, garden etc
    3. A good road. Present airport road is like corporation dumping yard road. its not fit to be called as airport road. Visit kochi to see the airport road
    4. Have some domestic flights. so need not go to bengaluru to catch goa flight

Whatever tag given still stigma still remains. Mangalore airport is still not safe.

Qty of people does not mean anything unless quality of service offered is shown in action.

Jossey, you can fly to USA, UK, Europe via Super Connector Airports in Middle East like Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai & Bahrain. In the Far East sector, Singapore is the biggest Super Connector airport. Most offer a very small transit time & its more like direct flights only!

From India, Only Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore have direct flights to USA by Air India, Lufthansa to Europe and British Airways to UK

Its not economically viable to have these long haul flights from Mangalore, which incidentally has excellent connecting flights to Super Connecting Airports in Middle East compared to most North Indian or East Indian cities, so Cheer Up!
