Considerable fear in minds of minorities: Narayana Murthy

New Delhi, Oct 31 (PTI): Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy today expressed concerns that there is considerable fear in the minds of minority in India and wanted governments should bring back the sense of confidence in them.

"I am not a politician, I am not interested in politics, therefore, I don't want to comment on that but the reality today is that there is considerable fear in the minds of minority in India," he said.

He said there was also "considerable fear" in the minds of people of one region living in another region.

Citing the Shiv Sena campaign against the South Indians living in Mumbai in 1960s, he said, "Today there is a lot of that worry. I get lots of emails, I get a lot of people talking to me even though I stay at home because of my leg.

He told NDTV, "the first priority of this government, or for that matter any government, both at the Central level and the state level, is to bring back the confidence, the energy, the enthusiasm, the trust in the minds of every Indian that this is our country, I have all the rights here, I am very safe here and therefore I will work towards the betterment of India."

No country, the IT veteran said, has ever made steady economic progress unless "there is no distrust, there is no fear, unless the majority community doesn't oppress the minority community, doesn't want the minority community to do what it wants etc. etc."

Participating in the programme, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha said he agreed with Murthy but added that all citizens should be assured with statements by Prime Minister and senior leaders of the BJP and NDA as well as President Pranab Mukherjee that "constitutional rights are going to be protected, they are non-negotiable and inviolable."

Sinha said they were sworn by oath to protect the Constitution so that everybody has the freedom of expression, freedom to travel where they want, the freedom to live where they want and freedom to eat what they want.

"That is non-negotiable in our country and if there is any violation of the Constitutional rights, of these universal human rights, then the full force of law has to be applied so that we protect that.

"And if there is a sense that people are living in atmosphere of intolerance, then it should not be because we are not fully and 100 per cent in support of the Constitution. It is because the law and order situation is not allowing the people to explain themselves freely or do what they need to do to go about their daily lives," he said.

Murthy said it did not matter which government was in position. "This is true for the NDA government or the UPA," he said.

Referring to the murder of rationalist Kalburgi in Karnataka, Murthy said What happened to him is a great example.

"So I told clearly whether it is UPA, NDA, Congress, BJP; I am not interested in politics. I have no interest in politics. Therefore, I am not worried about what concoction of government is where. But the reality is we have to create an environment of peace, harmony, trust, enthusiasm, energy, etc.

"And then we can get into economic matters. Let me assure you that unless we sort that problem out, I don't think we will be able to bring back growth; I don't think we will be able to solve the problem of poverty; I don't think we will be able to eliminate the sad cases of poor farmers committing suicides," he said.

For all of that the first requirement for us is to create an environment of positivism, environment of confidence, environment of trust, I belong to India, Murthy said.

sir, you didn't see the other side. it's same condition other side also. majority people are also suffering and feeling the same fear in their minds. Best example is our Karnataka State where Congress is ruling. It has become hell for majority people called Hindus and heaven for minorities. Congress govt is silent, seeing everything and acting blind just because of vote bank. so, as a whole you need to fight for both the sides... harmony in the society.

During Congress rule Man Mohan Singh used to be criticized as a puppet under Sonyaji and now Modi has been branded as moun-Modi and seems to dancing to the tune of RSS & Rightwing activists which has resulted in assuming that:
“Is India becoming an intolerant nation?
Look at what is happening in India recently: ban the book, ban the documentary, and ban beef. Attack the writer, lynch the rapist, burn your daughter if she has a boyfriend. Return to your forefather's religion, vandalize the church, add the Gita to the syllabus. The common thread that runs through most of these eruptions is a reactionary ideology, Hindutva.
Question is whether India, alongside its growing international heft, is also becoming an increasingly intolerant, inflexible and even irritable nation”

If anything happens to minorities that will be the headline in our media for which the central Govt is directly responsible, even if the respective states have all the power and police force to curb these incidents. Mr. Murthy has to understand these things and should comment on media when it comes to the sensitive issues.

RBI governor speaks out against bans, for tolerance
    New Delhi:
    TIMES NEWS NETWORK

India's tradition of debate and an open spirit of enquiry is critical for economic progress, Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan said on Saturday while calling for fostering “competition in the market place of ideas“.
In a convocation address at IIT Delhi, from where he graduated in Electrical Engineering 30 years ago, Rajan called for tolerance, mutual respect and protection of the right to question and challenge, as well as the right to behave differently so long as it does not hurt others seriously .

“This means encouraging challenge to all authority and tradition, even while acknowledging that the only way of dismissing any view is through empirical tests. What this rules out is anyone imposing a particular view or ideology because of their power,“ he said.

All ideas must be scrutinized, he added, no matter where they originate. All ideas should be scrutinized critically matter whether they originate domes , no tically or abroad, whether they have matured over thousands of years or in a few minutes, whether they come from an untutored student or a world-famous professor,“ RBI governor Raghuram Rajan said in a speech which marked a shift away from the world of monetary policy and interest rates............

Mr Murthy though says he is not a politician is really a shrewd politician. He has spoken like a politician and he expects something in return from so called secular govt. In fact it is not considerable fear in the minds of minorities but in the minds of people of India . These corporates and politicians are hand in glove in creating this situation. How can a person who is C/O footpath become crorepathi once he becomes corporator m l a or minister. These companies will be funding these political parties. If they are so considerate about the poorest of the poor and farmers let them appoint them in their companies. They talk about secularism and about minorities . It has become fashion to abuse one religion to get popularity and to be in limelight. How many politicians and corporates have married / got married off their wards to the minorities or oppressed class? How many people have performed simple marriage? My request to all Indians not to get carried away by these politicians and corporates.as opined by Mr Murthy there is no fear amongst minorities and communal clashes are there since ages ie the fruit of British divide and rule policy carried forward by Indian politicians. Biggest mistake is no true freedom fighter came forward to join government after independence. How many corporates have opposed Special Economic Zone which is built on the graves of farmers? They speak about welfare of farmers standing on their graves. These people are pseudo seculars and pseudo pro-oppressed. Let these corporates stop their drama and let them try to rebuild the social structure, environment which they have destroyed. We will work according to our conscience and live happily being true secular Indians. Jai hind

Very good thoughts of Mr. Murthy. Some people here are saying that minorities should come into the mainstream!, But what exactly is mainstream!?. Just because you know some words, don't use them unless you know the proper meaning. Attacking ones religion, culture, food habits, dictating who should love whom etc etc doesn't allow one to come into mainstream but will help create multiple streams!. So many known and learned people who are not minority are expressing these fears means something is definitely going wrong in this country. Better we understand what they mean and correct would be in the interests of the country.

The fear in minority will be always created no matter how much ruling party consider them. It is done for political benefit. How much ever we develop, our poverty will make is agree to whatever these buggers try to do with the religion.

So, conclusion would be, both ruling, opposition, everyone should unite and walk towards development. Until and unless that is not done, we won't see any economical benefits

Very well said by Mr. Narayan Murthy, the founder of INFOSYS.

One such live example is UAE. It doesn't suppress any, not even expatriates. Hence it has grown to this level in economy today and will shall grow further.

Politicians of any party, which ever country they belong too should understand and implement this funda clear in their mind that when a Ruler of any country loves it's citizen and provide equal justice then it's a reality that it's citizen work hard 100% towards its progress and protection with nothing else in their mind.

Indeed it's unfortunate that our country where we dream of being top notch by 2020 is going towards anarchy by implementing a divide and rule policy model.

Can open our eye's and refer history as well as present, that whenever there is injustice and suppression taken place by powerful on weeker, a revolution of bloodshed for freedom and justice has raised. One cannot deny it.

Regarding the example of Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen. In my comment earlier I never used these countries as an example but instead used only UAE among GCC as live example.
By the way the above countries were once ruled by dictators of their period and mover over their citizens were fed up with tyranny and in between few western interest added fuel to the crisis which ultimately ended in disaster.
The entire world knows who destroyed Iraq and Libya.
Even here it's the same case, when powerful or majority suppressed the weaker or minority the revolt had to happen. All it needed was a start and see who started it and how it's burning.

Finally, well known people from the Hindu religion are talking about the critical situation created by the BJP and her sister parties terrorizing the minorities of India.

This deadly problem is not created by the noble and peace loving Hindus with whom I grew up in harmony-love and unity, but the made in North India creation of friction created by the tricky and totally self-centered politicians and their brain dead blind followers totally undermined the peace and harmony of whole India.
