Mangaluru: Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra inaugurated at SAC

Mangaluru, Oct 31: UGC-approved Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra was inaugurated at Loyola Centre for Research and Innovation (LCRI), St Aloysius College (Autonomous) here on Saturday October 31. Two newly-built auditoriums of LCRI were also inaugurated on the occasion.

Member of parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the Kaushal Kendra while district incharge minister B Ramanath Rai inaugurated two newly-constructed auditoriums named after Fr L F Rasquinha, former principal and rector of St Aloysius Institutions and Fr Robert Sequiera, former member of the department of chemistry.

Addressing the gathering, Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated two great dream projects - Digital India and Skill India - in order to create a developed India. Deen Dayal Kaushal Kendra has been started as part of Skill India programme. I thank the Prime Minister for starting such a good project.

"I congratulate St Aloysius College on being among the top 48 colleges selected for the programme
in the country and among the top two colleges selected for the programme in the state. These certificate courses will help those with practical experience to gain theoretical knowlege so that they can get good employment. After completing degree, students do not know what they want to do and by doing these skill-oriented courses they can gain expertise in a particular field. The government has introduced Mudra scheme and is providing loans up to 10 lac for those who want to start their own business."

He also lauded Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, philosopher and leader of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh,
for his selfless service to the society.

MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik said, "I congratulate St Aloysius on starting Kaushal Kendra. In whatever work we do, we need to be skilled. It is high time that we change our education system and make it more skill-based. Today youngsters want good job, and good job for them means good salary. Only knowledge alone is not enough, skill is very essential. In order to cater to the needs of the world, skill-based education is very essential. The very purpose of education is enlightenment. When there is enlightenment there cannot be darkness. Deen Dayal Upadyay was a great man with the approach that the schemes of the government should reach the last person living in the most interior village. He was a man of great principles. I congratulate St Aloysius college for starting such a programme."

MLC Ivan D'souza said, "This is a very good project. Everybody need to learn skill, this will make a person more employable. Creating employment is also necessary. We say China is developing at a high pace, and the reason is every house has a small industry. We need to change our policies. There is a need to produce good teachers and provide facilities to them."

Dr T D Kemparaju, newly-appointed registrar of Mangalore University was the chief guest of the programme. He said that Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra would give opportunity to
students to take a parallel course despite their degrees. He also strengthened the resolve of the
mass, by asserting that full focus lies on the year 2020, for all over development of India as a
greater potential for contribution to the global sphere.

Fr Denzil Lobo, rector of St Aloysius Institutions, in his presidential address said that students should not just have just job oriented skills but also thinking skills. "Our challenge is to prepare our young people for human resource for the global market," he said.

Walter D’Souza, former chairman of Federation of Indian Export Organizations - Southern
Region, Fr Xavier Alphonse, founder-director of Indian Center for Research and Development of Community Education (ICRDCE), Chennai and former principal of Loyola College, Chennai, and former vice-principal of St Joseph’s College, Trichy were the guests of honour.

Fr Swebert D'Silva, principal, St Aloysius College, welcomed the gathering while Fr Praveen Martis, director of Kaushal Kendra thanked the gathering.
