Rain lashes coast - lightning inflicts damages on finance firm

Mangaluru, Nov 2: During afternoon, evening, and late evening, heavy downpour accompanied by lightning and thunder was experienced all over coastal Karnataka on Sunday November 1.

Subrahmanya got rain right from afternoon till night. A tree which got uprooted across the road at Nadugallu on Subrahmanya-Sullia road threw traffic off gear.

Two persons were injured in heavy rain and lightning in Karkala. The branch of Muthoot Finance there suffered hefty damage due to lightning. After lightning ignited fire inside Karkala branch of Muthoot Finance, furniture, computers, files, and counter were consumed by flames. Karkala fire brigade personnel reached the spot and doused the flame. The actual loss in this case is yet to be assessed. At the same time., lightning damaged the backside of the roof of a house belonging to Anni Hegde at Attur, Karkala. As the window class burst in the incident, Anni Hegde and Jayaram Hegde suffered minor injuries.

Good rain was also reported from Sullia, Kadaba, Bantwal and Puttur. The city also got good rain since evening till late night. Almost all parts of Karnataka coast reported rainfall of varying quantities.
