Puttur, Nov 2: A person was killed and six others suffered serious injuries in an accident which occurred at the road bend at Udane near Nelyady in the taluk on the evening of Sunday November 1.

After a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus and Maruti Omni vehicle got involved with an accident in this case, Kumar (50), a resident of Raghavendra Nagar in Sakleshpur, died. Kumar was travelling in the Omni. When the bus, moving to Dharmasthala from Subrahmanya collided with the Omni that was returning to Sakleshpur after undertaking pilgrimage to Dharmasthala, there was heavy rain and strong wind. The injured Netra (40), Gautam (7), Shobha (45), Mamata (31), and Rani (26) from a single family, and driver of the vehicle, Dharmanna (50), all from Sakleshpur, were admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru with serious injuries.

After the accident, traffic was thrown out of gear because of blinding rain and wind in the region. Policemen from Nelyady outpost and staff of ambulances stationed at Kokkada and Shiradi worked in tandem in rescuing injured persons and transporting them to hospital.
