B-Town hails girl power after Sania's victory


Mumbai, Nov 2 (IANS): As Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis clinched the WTA Finals doubles crown, Bollywood celebrities like Farhan Akhtar, Sonakshi Sinha and Varun Dhawan lauded the Indian tennis star with expressions like “Go girl!” and “Keep making India proud”.

The stars exclaimed that the title is a new accomplishment in Sania's book of achievements with “many more to come”.

Sania and Hingis came up with another stupendous performance on Sunday to win the women's doubles title of the prestigious $7 million WTA Finals at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. It has been an eventful year for Sania. She has won 10 titles, including two Grand Slams -- US Open and Wimbledon.

Bollywood's “Shotgun Junior” Sonakshi Sinha congratulated Sania on Twitter with a post that read: “Congrats @MirzaSania and @mhingis for this one, each one before this, and the ones yet to come. Yes. Because you gonna win those too anyway. Monsters”.

The multi-faceted talent Farhan Akhtar, who calls the tennis star his ‘rockstar’, was exhilarated by the win.

He tweeted: “@MirzaSania and @mhingis are in the zone...Congratulations again. #champions #WTAFinals #hipbump”.

Actors Varun and Vivek Oberoi were cherishing the moment of Sania's triumph.

Varun wished her in a cheeky way with a post “@MirzaSania so proud and happy now get me biryani”, while Vivek shared “And congrats yet again to the superstar of Indian tennis @MirzaSania! Go girl! Keep making India proud! #chakde #WTA #champ #girlpower”.

Actress Genelia Deshmukh also tweeted: “Hey @MirzaSania...Congratulations... And I know we have to keep congratulating you...Wow what a Year”.

The “I Hate Luv Storys” director Punit Malhotra posted: “You're making this a habit and all Indians very proud! Many congratulations @MirzaSania”.
