Mangaluru: St Ann’s College of education celebrates Graduation Day

Mangaluru, Nov 5: "Good education is the greatest gift you can give yourself or society. As education facilitates knowledge, learning, skills and values to society it should not be neglected. The maximum potential to transform lives lies in the hands of an efficient teacher and that is the reason why a teacher’s profession is considered the best profession above all." These were the key points expressed by the chief guest prof Dr K Byrappa, vice chancellor, Mangalore University on the auspicious occasion of Graduation Day held on November 5 at 10.30 am at the college conference hall.






In addition, the chief guest congratulated the institution on its completion of the third cycle of NAAC re-accreditation in 2014 with an ‘A’ grade and having secured a CGPA of 3.71/4.0 which ranks the highest among all the colleges affiliated under Mangalore University and all the re-accredited colleges of education in the country. The chief guest also mentioned that the college inculcates research culture among student teachers and extends commendable services to rural areas as well as strives for its upliftment.

The college graduation day is one of the most important moments in a student's life as it marks a transition in one’s educational life. It is the recognition of the outstanding efforts of the 72nd batch of BEd teacher trainees as they fly out of the portals of this institution as full fledged teachers.

The programme began with invoking God’s blessings. Dr Sr Clare AC, principal welcomed the chief guest, prof Dr K Byrappa and the dignitaries. As a gesture of appreciation, he was felicitated by the principal. The first edition of the student magazine ‘Ann Aura’, a collective effort of the staff and students was released by the chief guest.

The college report gave a glimpse of all the stupendous achievements of the academic year 2014- 2015. The cultural programme sequenced a hindi song sensing the purpose of life. A folk dance known as ‘pearl of the Orient’ portrayed a beautiful experience of Goan culture. ‘You are the light of the world’ was sung in chorus. A tableau potraying the message of nature’s beauty and harmony was performed.

The rank holders of BEd and MEd were felicitated. Sushma Pearl Koundinya and Lami M C were awarded with gold medals founded by the alumnae association. The winners of the various competitions were given prizes and a couple of scholarships and founded prizes were given to the deserving students.

Smisha Varadu compered the ceremony and Nirmala Vaz proposed the vote of thanks. This programme was witnessed by Dr Sr Lydia Fernandes AC, general counsellor, Apostolic Carmel Congregation, Dr Sr Shalini AC, superior and joint secretary, St Ann’s Institutions, the parents, staff-members, sisters in the campus, alumnae and students.
