19-year-old woman raped in moving bus near Bengaluru, two arrested

Bengaluru, Nov 6 (DHNS): A 19-year-old woman employee of a private hospital was raped in a moving minibus by the driver, who asked the cleaner to take over the wheels, near Hosakote in Bengaluru Rural district on Thursday morning.

Barely a month ago, a BPO employee was raped in a moving Tempo Traveller in Madiwala in the City.

In a swift action, the police on Friday arrested the accused driver, Ravi (21), a native of Shivamogga, and cleaner Manjunath (24), of Chintamani in Chikkaballapur district. The victim, a resident of a village in Sulibele hobli of Hosakote taluk, was working as an office assistant in the private hospital in Hosakote.

Around 7 am on Thursday, the girl went to Hasighalla bus stand to board a bus to her work place. The minibus came along and stopped close to her and the crew informed that the vehicle headed towards Hosakote. The unsuspecting victim, not realising that the bus had no other passenger, boarded it. After travelling about a kilometre, the driver asked the cleaner to take over, said the police.

After travelling around four km, Ravi pounced on the victim and raped her. Later, the duo dropped the victim near Lokkandahalli Gate and sped away. The victim reported for work but did not reveal her ordeal to anyone.

By afternoon, she started feeling feverish and developed stomach and head ache. One of the doctors at the hospital noticed her uneasiness and questioned her. She narrated the incident to the doctor, who admitted her in the hospital and informed the police.

The police recorded the victim's statement and referred her for medical examination. The police then tracked down the accused on Friday morning and arrested him along with the cleaner near Hosakote bus stand. The minibus was seized. The duo had no house in Hosakote and used to sleep in the bus.

“It is learnt that the victim and the accused have seen each other earlier. But we will have to ascertain if they knew each other. We have traced the owner of the bus, Krishnappa. The bus was attached to a garment factory and in free time the driver used to transport passengers,” a police officer said. A case has been registered in Sulibele police station.

Every female should have a gun for self defence. Rapist should be shot on the spot. Then only justice will be done. My dear sisters at least keep something in your bag so that you can hit the person on the head, who troubles you. Long back, when my son was eight months I had to take him to a doctor. I travelled from Hampankatta via Falnir to Mallikatta. Near Highlands stop one middle aged man started for the front door and while going, he touched my breast. I was holding my son in one hand and holding the bus bar on the other hand. Just imagine his lust and my horror. The bus came to a halt and he was fast moving to alight. But I must have banged him on the back at least six times. From then onwards I keep a small piece of wood of 9 inch in my bag for self protection. Beware men beware.

Can anyone of you writers here take up the mantle of CM\HM\Police chiefs and stop people raping?
If the above fail to apprehend the rapists, then one can understand complaints from the public.
Rapist can be stopped only if he comes out in the open and say he is going to rape now...!!! Even then how many of you will be ready to get involved in stopping him!!!?
Like this case, on the spur of the moment and when chance provided the driver\cleaner with only this single passenger on board to take the decision of raping her and they did it too in broad daylight. Did any one see them doing this ghastly act right on the middle of the road and amidst moving traffic?
How do you expect CM\HM\Police to know what is happening inside the mini bus?
It should be noted, the duo have been arrested without much delay and people should demand stringent\speedy action towards these rapists and published for public to know of the consequences if involved in raping...

Very sad incident and bad too.Besides rape the victim will suffer mental torture for life Long, physically dont know what all sickness she will be heriting from the accused like HIV.Now the rapes are on the daily News, time that Girls should (women too)just think of avoiding such instances.First of all in urban Region, try to avoid alone to travel if possible.better bit earlier to go.but important ,how about to learn some Karate ,or Judo exercises which can be useful to drive away the possible assaulter.?or carry pfeffer spray?or chillispray?and when not just bite his Hand or finger. Here one or two Ladys have done this and were succesful. One had bite on his tongue so severe, was two pieces.so he had too run away.some do on organ itself. It could have be better if Govt.brought some strict Action to the convict.sad sometimes Police self dont believe or not accepting to file case.In such instances we should be brave and fight ourselves.Hope the victim is now out of danger ,recovering from her shock.

People... please stop blaming the government for rapes but for not bringing stricter rules. A psycho, rogue will rape irrespective or party that rules in a region. What requires is a law that instills fear in the minds of such people.

Lets get together and demand for such a law because tomorrow it could be one of us, or our sister/daughter/wife suffering in the hands of these rogues. For sure on such a day we will not target the government but the man do did it !

boss, everybody is clear and aware what needs to be done. But ultimately who need to implement the recommendations ? Govt right, that's why the blame is completely on State Govt. Also there are stringent laws are already there for such crimes. Who needs to ensure law and order in place, it's govt. Who needs to ensure criminals are punished severely , it's govt.. nothing they are doing boss. so complete blame is on State Govt. Especially on Home Minister.

    Readwriter,

First, tell me who creates the criminal ? Does the government do it ? Its us ! Its our son, brother, father who is a rapist - not a government's MLA, MP or their children ! Why aren't we understanding that how we behave is depending on our upbringing ? Why are we producing children and tossing them off into a government's hand to straighten them ? Why ??

Lydia & readerwrite....what both of you saying is true!!..that's because
    Democracy have 4 pillars
    1) Executive (Government)
    2) Legislature (Parliament & State Assemblies, etc)
    3) Judiciary (Supreme Court, High Court & Other Judicial centres)
    4) Media (Newspaper, Internet, Blogs & whatever which expresses people’s aspirations)
once a system FAIL 4 are responsible,as Lydia said LAW (Judiciary) is very Poor, i stress MEDIA Should Highlight Internationally....so other TOP-3 Should awake....this is for Every Problem,

this was acceptable some time back. now our kids are becoming only victims. We have reached a position where only strict punishments will be the only way to stop these crimes. If it's one here and there, once a while, yes I would have agreed. now it's like every joker is getting in to crimes. raping, robbery, murder... so only strict sentences will stop them.... nothing else.

    Ms.Lydia, what you talking about??

    Not to blame Government !!!

Then whom to blame the victim of the rape, why you roaming alone???

Being a lady, how you can say this?

    Preaching is easier than practicing.

You can't see the increase of crime & road accidents in Karnataka?

We public can't tighten the law & order. Through government , the respective authority should take action.

First clean your mind from the party political influence, then only we all can unite.

Unfortunately we have a cheap minister with full of ego.(he is not chief).

His cheap comments like, I will eat beef & Pork what you will do? Instead of such a cheap statement, give some responsible statement like, we will legalise Butcher house & give permision to sell the unwanted cow to Butcher.

    Mr.Shirish Kumar,

Does any government allow somebody to rape ? No ! One rapes out of his own ill-will. Then, why do you blame the government for a rape ? What I say is demand a stricter law, so that there will be reduction in rapes and fear exists in people's mind about a crime and consequential punishment.

Ministers say may things. Some say its OK for young men to be naughty, girls should not wear jeans or girls should stay indoors to avoid rape ! Do two-three-year-old babies get raped because of jeans ? Or girls should abide with the situation and stay indoors meaning getting raped is normal if they venture out ? Meaning, rape is a play, not a crime ?

Which state does not have sex crimes ? Why do you pick Karnataka or its minister alone ? Because there isn't BJP ruling ? First clean your own mind and make it neutral - not party centric. Then, access a crime placing yourself in shoes of a father/brother/son of a victim not of a goon of the party that you support !

The issue of 'tolerant' was born by Congress as a strategy to counter Modi. This is the only way out. Many media and communist and anti BJPians joined the stream as they too feel suffocated now because no power.
Congress is intolerant bacause it fears Nehrivian dynasty's extinction in future!
Hence ready to play any role, stoop to go any level to save Nehruvian dynasty.
Another point for present 'intolerant'because govt is going to delink the Subhash Chandra Bose files on 23rd Jan 2016......Likely to unmask Nehru's true face in Indias freedom struggle and formation of Congress govt in independent India.....
