Bengaluru, Nov 6: Stung by the alleged Rs 7 lakh bribery scam involving the wife of Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee has sought a detailed report from the minister.
Social Welfare Minister Anjaneya’s wife is accused of allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 7 lakh on a tender pertaining to his department in a sting operation by a TV channel.
KPCC Chief and Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara, who spoke to reporters in Bengaluru on Friday, said the minister has denied the allegations and claimed that he or his wife were completely innocent.
However, the KPCC has asked Anjaneya to submit a detailed report on the whole issue of sting operation, Dr Parameshwara said.
Being the president of the KPCC, he said: "It is my duty to seek the report from the Minister."
Anjaneya’s report would in turn be hand over to the party high command for verification of alleged receipt of bribe, Dr Parameshwara said.
Unfazed by the controversy, Anjaneya defended his wife saying it was a conspiracy to defame his image in public.
Playing the Dalit card, the minister said it was common for oppressed people to face such difficulties.
Replying to questions, the KPCC Chief maintained that he was unaware of the contract dealing occurred at the minister’s residence.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would have to take a decision on the issue of resignation of the Minister.
The opposition, especially the BJP, has demanded the resignation of either the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah or Anjaneya.
A couple of Congress legislators said that they were not aware of the truth behind the issue and reality would be known only after conducting a probe.
