Shashikanth Bane's painting expo begins at Gallerie Orchid

Mangaluru, Nov 7: A nine-day exhibition of paintings by renowned artist Shashikanth Bane was inaugurated at Gallerie Orchid here by Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo on Friday November 6. The exhibition will be open till November 15.

The exhibition was formally inaugurated by lighting the lamp.

Addressing the gathering, J R Lobo said, "It is an honour to inaugurate this art exhibition. I congratulate Gallerie Orchid on organising art exhibition of Shashikanth Bane. I am obliged to Shashikanth Bane for exhibiting his art in Mangaluru. Mangaluru may be a small city compared to Mumbai but size and number of people do not matter. People of this region have a heart that appreciates good work. Paintings express feelings and culture. Everybody cannot be a painter but can appreciate good work. I know artists of this region who have put lot of efforts in their work contributed to the field of art."

He lauded Gallerie Orchid and its director William Pais for providing a platform for artists to display their paintings.

A total of 25 paintings in medium to large size canvasses have been displayed in the exhibition.
Shashikanth Bane is well-known artist from the city of Mumbai. He was born in Deorukh, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra in 1950. He has to his credit many awards like gold medal from Bandra School of Art in 1980, state award in 1994, award from Bombay Art Society in 1997 and Mayor's Award 1999. He has several solo shows to his credit. With his distinct style, he has captured the many colours of India's vibrant diversity on canvas.

William Pais, director, Gallerie Orchid, Shashikanth and others were present.
