Mangaluru, Nov 8: It was a heart-warming sight as scores of elderly people with joy writ large on their faces showcased their talents and bonded with youngsters at Forum Fiza Mall here on Saturday November 7.

The unique event was organized as part of the ongoing 'Bond with an Elder' campaign initiated by Vishwas Trust in a bid to bring youngsters closer to the elderly.

Dr Olinda Pereira, director of Vishwas Trust presided over the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Olinda lauded social activist Vidya Dinker for her efforts in organizing the event and said, "'Bond with an Elderly' is a concept that aims to bond the young with the elderly. The concept emerged after Raksha Bandhan and took shape this month.

"Most of the elderly people lead a lonely life, hence this is an effort to bring the young and elderly closer, through phone conversations or face-to-face meetings where they share things about their lives. It is an effort to build strong relationships," she added.

Rotary Club president Yathish Baikampady, Diwakar Pai and others were present.

The entertainment programme comprised a variety of performances that enthralled the gathering. Louis Sanctis and Maria John Rodrigues rendered a beautiful musical performance with the mouth organ. There was also an orchestra.

Vibrant dances by Vishwas Trust inmates and young people were a special attraction.

The elderly people led by Dr Olinda Pereira left their palm prints in different colours on a canvas. Artist B Dayanand then painted on it and gave his unique touch.

Poorvika and Nithin compered the programme.

Congratulations to the organisers who thought of the elderly. Glad they enjoyed the programme. Good to see many known faces, including my aunt.
