Udupi, Nov 8: A youth said to be suffering from mental instability created anxious moments at Kombugudde in Mallar here on Sunday November 8, after he climbed the minaret of a mosque.

Alam (21) from north India removed his clothes and climbed the minaret of Ghousia mosque and sat there, creating anxiety among the locals.

On receiving information, the fire service and police arrived at the spot. But despite their pleas and efforts to rescue the youth, he refused to cooperate and continued sitting on the minaret.

Finally, the locals managed to convince him and held open a bedsheet for him to jump on. The youth leapt on to the bedsheet and rescued himself.

Social worker Soori Shetty and others then took Alam to Vishwasada Mane in Shankarapura and got him admitted there.
