Kundapur, Nov 8: A sudden fire which appeared in a mini lorry was extinguished with the help of the public and a tragedy was averted. The incident happened at Thekkatte near here on Sunday November 8 night. Sense of mind of the public and their help was praised by all.

A Tata 407 mini lorry which carried dry grass was travelling towards Brahmavar from Kundapur. When the lorry reached Thekkatte, fire was seen on the backside of the lorry by the public walking on the road. They stopped the lorry and brought the issue to the notice of the driver.

The driver, who did not panic, tried to lift the trailer to drop the dry grass caught fire. But the dry grass which had stuck to the trailer was not easy to drop. The people gathered started giving various ideas and suggestions. Some people, who wanted to get rid of fire, managed to open the trailer gate. But the dry grass had turned into ashes by then.

Only the time sense from the public to inform the driver and their help averted the tragedy. Facility to lift the trailer in the lorry was also of help.

The vehicular traffic on the road was affected for about half an hour. Some people said that the wires crossing the road above could have touched the dry grass in the lorry to cause the fire. But this could not be confirmed.
