Sullia, Nov 9: Fight broke out between activists of CPM and BJP at Kallapalli on Saturday November 7 evening, when CPM activists were holding victory rally after bagging power in Panathadi gram panchayat in the district.

It is said that the CPM activists participating in the rally, who were jubilant at the performance of their party candidates, spat at some BJP activists at Kallapalli. BJP activists objected to this act, after which CPM cadres pounced upon them and beat them up, resulting in injuries to three of them, who then got admitted into the hospital for treatment.

Counting of votes relating to election held at Panathadi gram panchayat was conducted on Saturday, in which CPM candidates had fared well. In the evening, CPM activists took out victory procession at Kallapalli. It is gathered that when the procession was moving in front of BJP office at Kallapalli, CPM activists spat at some BJP activists.

Angered by this, BJP activists questioned the concerned at this uncivilized act. This gave rise to verbal friction, ending with fight between activists of the two groups. Three BJP activists were injured. By then, policemen of Rajapuram station arrived at the spot.

Injured Bipin, Rakshit, and Madhava, were admitted into the government hospital at Sullia. In a complaint filed at Rajapuram station, they said Arun Rangattamale, Jayaprakash, and Anantaraj had attacked them. The activists said that 70 goondas had been summoned by CPM activists during this friction.

Kallapalli remained tense on Saturday and Sunday because of this incident. Rajapuram police kept close eye on the developments by patrolling the area and succeeded in averting fresh frictions from occurring in the aftermath of the above bitter incident.
