Udupi, Nov 9: A S Kiran Kumar, chairman of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bengaluru visited Sri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal, Udupi on Sunday November 8 as chief guest for their awards ceremony.
Addressing media persons on ‘Future trends and projects of ISRO’, the chairman said that ISRO is giving importance to farmers. Due to advancement in technology one is now able to get information on cyclones. Advancement of Gagan satellite has led to a stronger navigation signal. ISRO has covered a large number of activities such as information generated from satellite navigation like D2H connection, cable, economic transporting information, bank to bank connectivity and so on.
In connection with navigation satellites, four satellites have already been placed in orbit; seven satellite constellations will be connected by March next year. Satellites are important in the field of archeology and in documenting historic evidence. There are 4000 heritage towns in the country.
He explained that ISRO conducts student support programmes. They are also planning to increase their number of satellites. On the 10th of this month 15 communication satellites will be launched. From December to March one satellite will be launched each month. Five commercial satellites for Singapore will be launched by next month and focus is on to employ satellites for Indian industries. Within two and a half days, they complete one revolution round Mars.
Answering the media he replied that ISRO is giving more focus towards India rather than other countries. They are also using satellite technology for military related activities, however they intend to work more closely in future.An advisory committee chaired by prof U R Rao will take a decision on future mass mission.Scientists are waiting for a total solar eclipse to study the functioning of Aditya as a whole. The management has been getting good data results from five satellites which have already been launched.
The work of ISRO is to launch satellites, but designing, preparation, information gathering are done by the academies. 12 various academies are associated with ISRO. Satellites help the government in getting a clearer picture of agricultural produce and determining price regulation on various products.
He added that science and invention of technology are not destroyers of nature. On the contrary it is human greed that is destroying nature, in spite of their awareness of the ill effects of greed. We are not competing with the world or for appreciation, but we are working for the welfare of society. ISRO stands number one in societal development applications.
Indian students and scientists are interested in studying space. Their objective is to build interest in the welfare of society and to address their problems relating to its welfare.
He added that our earning capacity is good. ISRO intends extending its growth. Now ISRO is launching 4-5 satellites a year, but demand from India alone is 10-15 satellites. Their focus is on increasing the frequency of satellite launches for India. ISRO has signed 23 contracts with various countries and is working on this project.
Chandrayana II satellite design has already been accomplished. It will be launched around 2017-18.

H H Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji, president, Sri Sode Vadiraja Math Education Trust (SSVMET), Udupi, presided over the ceremony and presented gold medals to the branch toppers as well as to the meritorious students.
Second graduation ceremony held at SMVITM, Bantakal

Udupi, Nov 9: Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal organized its second graduation ceremony at the institute premises on7 November 7. Graduates who passed out during the academic year 2014 -15 received their graduation certificates from the chief guest, A S Kiran Kumar, Chairman, Indian Space research Organization (ISRO), Bengaluru at the ceremony.
In his address to the graduates, Kiran Kumar said that the new generation engineers had the responsibility of carrying forward the legacy of great engineers, who made remarkable achievements in different branches of engineering. Engineering, according to him, was doing a task systematically using scientific principles. The Prime objective of technology was to make things safe and comfortable by solving problems ranging from the simple to the complex .He illustrated how technology could be used for the welfare of humankind with the achievements of ISRO. He urged the graduates to come up in their life and bring laurels to the country.
H H Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji, President, Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust(SSVMET), Udupi, who presided over the ceremony, presented gold medals to the branch toppers and the institutional merit-cum-means scholarships to the selected students on the occasion. In his presidential address, he congratulated the graduates and reminded them that education was a never ending process and they should keep educating themselves throughout life. One should, like the lotus – which has its roots in mud but ever remains beautiful – in spite of one’s miserable background, should remain pure and good in one’s soul, he said.
Prof Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal, SMVITM administered the institutional oath to the graduates and in his address said that the fresh graduates should render their services to eradicate poverty and make health and education accessible to the entire population of the country. He urged the fresh graduates to be entrepreneurs and provide employment to people in whatever capacity they could.
Dr A Ganesha, Dean (Academics), SMVITM, read out the list of gold medal winners and Prof. Raviprabha K, Student Welfare officers announced theinstitutional merit-cum-means scholarship awardees.
A student team of SMVITMconsisted of Pratheek Hegde, Shricharan Bhat, Amrusha, Sankusha and Mr. Nikhil Acharya, that won the first prize in the VTU State Level Education Hack Fest-Oct 2015 for their application Vidya AAdhaarwas felicitated on the occasion. Mr. Vignesha, a Computer Science & Engineering student, who won the gold medal in the Best Physique competition and selected as Mr. VTU Single Zone Best Physique in the 16th VTU Best Physique Championship 2015-16 and Ms. Snehal, a Civil Engineering student adjudgedthe best student bythe Karnataka Chapter of Indian Society for Technical Education at its state level student convention, were also felicitated.

Creativity Center inaugurated at Bantakal Engineering College
Udupi, Nov 9: A S Kiran Kumar, Chairman , ISRO, Bengaluru has inaugurated creativity center in the department of mechanical engineering at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute Technology &Management, Bantakal on 8th November 2015 in the holy presence of H H Shri Vishwavallabha Theertha swamijiof Shri Sode Vadiraja Math, Udupi.
This center is co-sponsored by Tara prakashana & L E S Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru. The center is a platform for realizing the technical ideas of the student. The students of SMVITM, Bantakal will get the benefit of this center in the days to come.
