Kasargod, Nov 9: A group of men led by a murder-accused on Monday November 9 caused a ruckus and vandalized the police station, in an attempt to get a youth released from the custody of the Kasargod police.

Three policemen including a PSI were injured in the incident. The police have arrested Ajay Kumar Shetty (24) and Prashant (21) in this connection.

The city police had taken into custody Manippady resident Ajay Kumar Shetty for creating commotion after consuming alcohol in Meepugiri in city suburbs.

Angered by the police action, a group led by Mannipady residents Prashant, Ganesh and Vijesh barged into the police station and demanded Ajay's release.

They got into an argument with the police, and when their demand was not met, assaulted the police personnel there. They vandalised the place, scattering the furniture and files. Sub-inspector Ajith Kumar and constables Babu and Suresh who tried to stop them were injured.

The police later formally arrested Ajay and Prashant.

Prashant is an accused in the murder of Thalangere Nusrathnagar resident Abid.

It is said that the number of police personnel was less when the Prashant-led group came to the police station. The policemen who had gone out came back to the station after getting the information and arrested Prashant. His accomplices Vijesh and Ganesh fled.

A case has been registered charging them of creating ruckus in the police station and obstructing police duty.
