Madikeri, Nov 12: It is gathered that the state government is contemplating to order an inquiry by the regional commissioner into the violence which erupted on Tuesday in Kodagu district during protests organized against the celebration of birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan by pro-Hindu outfits. Sources said that the government plans to initially get a report by ordering inquiry by regional commissioner, and later go in for judicial inquiry.

Situation in Kodagu continues to be tense after protests against celebration of Tipu's birth anniversary disturbed peace there. Kodagu district, which witnessed use of batons and teargas shells on Tuesday by the police to control the situation, saw the protests spilling over to Wednesday too.

Funeral of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader, Kuttappa, who died on Tuesday, was conducted on Wednesday. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lac to his family.

Hindu organizations and BJP went in procession after postmortem was conducted on the mortal remains of Kuttappa. Funeral was conducted at his native place, Iggodlu in Madapura. BJP leaders, D V Sadananda Gowda, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Pratap Simha, K G Bopaihah, Appachchu Ranjan and others paid their last respects to the departed leader. Sources said that postmortem reports attributed his death to severe blow to head during his fall from above the compound wall of the district hospital's residential quarters.

Prohibitory orders were clamped all over the district thereafter, and policemen tightened security. On Wednesday too Kodagu bandh was observed, and pro-Hindu outfits organized protests. Bus movements were suspended, and by Wednesday evening, situation improved a lot.

In the meanwhile, the police have so far not been able to find out who fired at Shahul Ahmed (21), when he was returning to Siddapur after taking part in the Tipu birth anniversary celebrations on Tuesday. He had been admitted to the hospital at Mysuru where he died on Wednesday evening.
