Udupi, Nov 12: Diocese of Udupi and district working journalists association, Udupi jointly organized a Deepavali get together at Bishop’s House auditorium on Wednesday November 11.

Fr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi on this auspicious occasion said, "Deepavali festival is a moving from dark to light, wrong paths to true paths and death to life (amrita). For the past three years the diocese has been organizing a get-together for media persons.

He called for stronger relationships with one another and encouraged goodwill in society. The burning diyas used at Deepavali are a symbolic way of spreading peace and light to future generations.

Prof Dr B A Vivek Rai, former vice chancellor of Hampi and KSOU University, delivered a lecture on literature and media. He said, "This feast is not restricted to one day alone. If we stand united we can increase good opportunities amongst us. Everyone has their own beliefs and is born free in a community without any caste or community restraints.

"Nowadays newspapers use a lot of literature related lines. There is a fine line between fact and fiction. The style of literature changes from time to time," Rai opined.

'Literature is a part of media'. People have less knowledge about the use of digital techniques in literature in India. Many discussions taking place through digital media is a good sign too.

Literature must reach people. Use of visuals in literature has not developed much.

Vivek Rai said, "There is need to know more and more about the new trends in media. Digital media brings new ideas to society.

Fr Denis D’Sa, PRO of Udupi diocese, Jayakar Suvarna, president, UDWJA, Rohini, officer, district information department and others were present.

Fr Baptist Menezes welcomed the gathering, Michael Rodrigues, media convener proposed the vote of thanks. Vincent Alwa was master of ceremonies.
