Mangaluru: Bandh on Nov 13 - Sec 144 for three days, holiday for schools, colleges

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Nov 12: In protest against the murder of a youth at BC Road on Thursday November 12 and also the violence and death of a VHP leader in Madikeri on Tipu Jayanti on November 10, the district Bajrang Dal and VHP have called for a complete bandh on Friday November 13.

Earlier in the evening, the VHP and Bajrang Dal had announced that there would be no bandh, but only protests in various places from 11 am to 12 noon. However, after the late evening developments near BC Road, Bantwal, where a youth identified as Harish was stabbed to death, the Bajrang Dal and VHP decided to go for a full-fledged bandh, said Bajrang Dal convenor Sharan Pumpwell, speaking to daijiworld.

Meanwhile, a KSRTC bus was set on fire by miscreants at Nellikatte in Puttur. Fire service arrived at the spot and managed to douse the flames. Tyres were burnt in some parts, sources said

Anticipating trouble, the district administration on the orders of the DGP has imposed section 144 throughout the district for the next three days, starting November 13. Holiday has also been declared for schools and colleges throughout the district.

Speaking to daijiworld, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said that security has been beefed up in the district to prevent untoward incidents, and as precautionary measure, 1,000 additional police personnel including RAF and police force from north Karnataka have been called.

"These measures have been taken in view of the safety of the district," the DC said, while appealing to citizens to keep calm and maintain peace and order.

Can anyone here show me anything that is good done for the City by these 2 or 3 right wing groups?
    Why blame unnecessarily the Govt.
Jayanthis are there\held like Shivaji \ Gandhi\Tagore etc.
This is purely political move by BJP and it's splinter groups to disturb peace in the State at the of a coin. These goondas do not need a real reason to make these trouble as their parent party itself is a trouble maker everywhere.
These groups have done every kind of damage in the city\State as they are paid\financed by their party to create such kind of havoc\disturb peace everywhere. People should realise this and condemn publicly these kind activities from them and tell BJP if they do not stop this, they will never come to power in Karnataka.

During my recent stay in Mangaluru, I was happy to see a peaceful city with happy people.

I was also excited that my dear native place, Mangaluru is on the way to becoming a 'smart city'.

But, soon after my return to Bengaluru, I'm shocked at the reality that it was just an illusion, a 'mayajaal'.

When are we going to learn from our mistakes? Is this the legacy which we are going to leave for our future generation/s?

There are wine shops and bars too and discotheque at Lalith Hotel. Good fish / vegetables / Chinese food / Sizzlers / pizzas / cake shop / massage parlours etc at Cheffs are available too. This is how 'controversies ' are created and then blame the nay sayers for intolerance!. Tippu was a controversial leader. The CM of Karnataka suddenly remembers Tipu 67 years after independence, and when some people protest, blame them for intolerance, use police force and fire upon them. The CM, also throws challenge for his intention to take beef. Is it not creating the atmosphere for controversy ? Why media is silent about this, a CM himself responsible for purposely creating law and order situation! Media reporting about threat to Girsh Karnad but not to anyone else.

This is incredible - VHP threatens violence, calls for the bandh, and then go "CM is responsible"? Sorry, if the Sangh groups resort to violence, it is the sangh that is responsible, not anybody else. It is also the district administration's job to ensure peace and safety of its citizens, but whoever indulges in violence, is responsible for it - no use blaming others

Given that all the police will be trying to enforce section 144 and prevent burning of public property, a Bandh will only delay the police investigation of the murder and not help it.

BD decides the fate of Mangalore? Hello administration, a handful of misguided people decide for all of us? How much tax do they pay? How much national progress do they do?

I think it is time to invite a march against BD and tell them clearly, they need to get back into their barracks.

There is a limit, and I think the limit has arrived. All you mothers/wives, who are feeding these elements of unwanted groups (irrespective of religion), stop giving them free food, indirectly you too are a reason for violence. Let them put their energy for some hard labour, they will be straightened.

    Enough is Enough.

Do you know how painstakingly people have organized a function in their family?
Do you know how people travelling from distance have to spend anxious time at bus/railway stations?
Do you know those old and poor, sick and babies who need attention and are denied that?

What is achieved in this INSTANT bandh? There indeed is a limit. The 'padadikaaris' of both BD and VHP from Mangalore, should be discriminated and side lined by everyone, like they are a decease.
