Puttur, Nov 13: Relating to the mysterious death of Varsha Alva, a student of Vivekananda College here on September 28 last year, the chief judicial magistrate here, C K Basavaraj, has passed orders, seeking registration of criminal case against two of the fellow students of the deceased girl. The magistrate has ordered to book the students under sections 302, 379 and 201 read with section 34 of Indian Penal Code.

Varsha Alva (19), who was from Konchady, Mangaluru, was believed to have been killed after being knocked down by a moving train, after her veil got entangled in the tracks when two girls were taking photographs at the railway tracks near Vivekananda College. Ratna from Eshwaramangala, who was the other girl involved with this incident, had suffered serious injuries.

Sukeshraj, a B Com degree course student and Rachana from the same college have been ordered to be named as accused in the criminal case.

Dayanand Alva, father of the deceased Varsha, who happens to be an ex-serviceman, in a private complaint filed with the court, alleged that Varsha was killed at the railway tracks near Nehru Nagar here, and her body was then shifted elsewhere and effort was made to destroy evidence. The accused have been charged with stealing of a gold chain with diamond pendant Varsha wore at the time, and then providing misleading information to the police.

"Varsha was my only daughter. She was a student of the second year engineering degree course at the said college. Rachana and others were her classmates, and all of them used to stay at the hostel. Rachana and others had some misunderstanding with Varsha, and Varsha used to tell about this enmity over phone to us. On September 28, 2014, Rachana and some other girl students approached Varsha, telling her that they do not believe in continuing with the enmity and all was well between them from then on. By promising Varsha to give her birthday party, they took her near the railway tracks, and in the guise of taking photographs, pushed her on the railway tracks and murdered her. Thereafter, they called Sukeshraj and with his help, shifted Varsha's body elsewhere by auto rickshaw with the specific intention of destroying evidence," Dayanand had said in his complaint.

Railway police had initially registered case relating to Varsha's death, and Dayanand was not satisfied with this investigation. The judge of the court, who went through the private complaint, passed order on November 7, instructing the police to book the above students. Advocates from Mangaluru, Tonse Narayana Poojary and Mithesh Poojary, had argued the case on behalf of Dayanand Alva.
