Mangaluru, Nov 13: The bandh call given by Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad in the district has received total response. Vehicles including buses and auto rickshaws are off the roads. Towns and market places wore deserted look.

Sporadic incidents were reported from some parts of the city. Four buses parked at Pumpwell were stoned at damaged by miscreants. Tyres were burnt in various parts of Bantwal taluk, including in Vittal, BC Road and Kalladka.

Some shops in various parts of the city like Bajal and Market Road that had opened for business were shut down by the police, as Section 144 is in place. The police also imposed nakabandi.

In Ullal limits, two buses were stoned near Mudipu and banners conveying Tipu Jayanti wishes put up near Kuthar junction were torn. All shops across Ullal constituency remained closed, and roads remained deserted with public transport coming to a halt.

The police led by ACP Kalyan Shetty went about closing down shops in Thokkottu, but when they shut down even medical shops and newspaper stalls, the locals began protesting. Earlier during bandhs, medical shops and newspaper stalls used to remain open, but this time they were closed by the police themselves. The locals alleged that by doing so, the police had shown support to the bandh called by VHP and Bajrang Dal. ACP Kalyan Shetty then tried the crowd assuring that the medical shops would be opened, but till afternoon, they continued to remain shut.

The call for bandh was given after a youth named Harish was stabbed to death near BC Road on the night of Thursday November 13, and also to protest against the violence and death of a VHP leader in Madikeri during Tipu Jayanti celebrations.

Holiday has been declared for schools and colleges. With section 144 in place for three days, only some private vehicles are moving around. People, who were already affected by a day's auto rickshaw protest, are compelled to walk to their destinations as public transport is not available. There have, however, been minor incidents like burning of tyres at Bikkarnakatte, Padua, and Ullal.

Tight security is in place. Police vehicles have been moving around the city, warning the people through the public address system mounted on vehicles not to form crowds. The situation has remained peaceful since the morning.

These groups(VHP, BD, SDPI, PFI) are not Mangalorean, nor are their members from Mangalore. Yet they have the guts to riot in our city and tell us what to do? We shouldn't let them stop our children from going to schools and colleges, taking our sick to hospitals and going to work to feed our families. They have no right.

The District Administration / State Govt only showed their weakness against a bunch of goons. The Administration ( Police ) were given orders to forceably close Petrol bunks / Banks / market and even Milk Booths. The closure of shops was never by self. So readers even abroad please note. The whole thing was badly managed by the Administration and our elected MLA's were meek spectators. Our MLA's seemed gutless to face nuisance from a bunch of hooligans.

In future too the Administration will shut the City this way. This makes the job of the Police very easy I guess and in turn hold the citizens to ransom.

Photographs of the Police forcibly closing shops / Banks / Petrol Bunks will be soon be shown / produced in the High Court of Karnataka under a PIL. Let the Administration answer the High Court.

Iceland is a country. All the citizens there are athiests..... no religion. There is no law and order situation, no bundhs , no murders, no rapists, no Sec 144, no curfew etc etc. It is such a peaceful country.

In India there are too many religions / castes / sub castes / traditions / customs etc etc. This is where the problem arises.

What a pathetic condition in the state due to bandh. The life of the general public is disturbed massively. The students are undergoing turmoil. The daily wagers are suffering to the core. How and why sudden enlightenment came to our honorable CM to celebrate Tippu's (controversial figure) jayanthi despite of objection from majority of the people. Was he not aware of the consequences or deliberately allowed to tatter the situation of law and order in the state. The general public is being targeted. This is not the governance the public ever expected from congress. The ruling party has miserably failed. What to say about Karnad's foolish statement on Kempe Gowda, the architect of Bangalore while sharing dias with CM. How easily our CM washed his hands by saying that it was Karnad's personal view. If it is so, tomorrow another leader may come up to announce in the public that Belgaum should go to Maharashtra and will CM silent the public stating that is personal view of that leader ?

Siddaramayya is the worst ever CM Karnataka has seen. He is incapable, partial and rude in behavior. Right from his inception as CM , he has been doing blunders and goof ups.He thinks that he can fool the people always. First of all, Government's over enthusiasm for Tippu was uncalled for. After all , Tippu doesn't have a good history. This has been made clear and public by two communities earlier when Tippu University was in news. Now , Siddu and his "secular" team has raked up the otherwise peace loving society and now things have gone beyond their control. So , squarely the blame is on Siddu. It is his lack of vision and ability. Obsession alone will not suffice. The new HM is another power hungry man and now that he has got the chair after such a long waiting , he feels he can do anything. The government appears like a bunch of fools.

UK windsor castle has kept all the belongings of Tipu in a very special security because they had a heavy war with Tipu.

It is the RSS VHP BD and other jobless youth creating problem as on today.

Except a small percentage of communal minded people from both communities all want peaceful and harmonious relations between two communities. Why this birthday celebration, certainly it is not for muslims, as birthday is not allowed as per Islam!. Then why? to widen the gap between two communities as some outfits enjoy when they get a chance to disturb peace in the society and communal harmony. Why the problem in hyper communal sensitive districts of us and neighboring Kodagu only.

I'm surprised that the District Administration has succumed to the call from the BD / VHP for the bundh. Is the Congress Administration so weak / frightened of a handful of goons ?? They could have taken them into preventive custody 2 days ago instead of closing down the city. The District Administration had given powers to the Police to forcibly close shops / petrol bunks / veg hotels etc. I wonder if the District Administration too was a element together with the BD / VHP. If not such a thing would not have happened in Mangalore, probably the first time. Our elected MLA's / MLC look like sheer kittens today in Mangalore. By encouraging the bundh ( and watching the District Administration show its powers ) they have shown their weakness too.

There is no point in blaming the administration, government and the Poice.
The only problem is the silent PM.
The day this PM will clamp the activities of beef ban then we have no issue at all.
The key people who arrange this protest and banth should be arrested and kept in jail. And cases should be booked under different sections of Indian Penal code.
They are committing offenses and Police are helpless because police belong to same community.
The Police should be neutral and arrest these leaders.

Obviously history is very sensitive issue in Mangalore. No such thing in Bangalore, where if it was truly for Siddu commemorating Tipu's birthday bandh should have been total. Our strange sense of history is laughable. We are fine with British rule (our PM is enjoying the pleasantries as we speak and hosted by our former rulers) while Tipu touches our raw nerve. Remember Tipu was one among us although a much braver than us (he obviously did not know the concept of Bandh) and ruled a Kingdom. Atrocities happened across India including by British, why single out Tipu for that. And Siddu could have held a all party consensus before holding an event if in fact his intent was not political which now has turned Communal. Out and open appeasement of minority is obviously Congress's way of doing things.

If we can survive without vehicles on roads, certainly we can avoid 80% of tiny vehicles which are only for single users or just for couples, which occupy major space on roads and parks.
