Prabhat Bhattacharya plays title character in his directorial 'Kaanu'

Mumbai, Nov 13 (IANS): Actor Prabhat Bhattacharya, who is directing the football-based film "Kaanu", also plays the title character in the film.

"Kaanu" plays for the Ghat Shila Football Club in the film. About the importance of the club in the film, Prabhat said: "Ghat Shila Football Club or GFC is a club which was established by Kaanu's father. So it's very close to his heart.

"But due to certain reasons, he has to leave the club. He is extremely sad about it and explaining it to his team members, who are also his close friends, is very tough for him. This is one of the most emotional sequences in the film and one of the most defining moments in the script of the film."

Prabhat will be sporting the 'No. 9' jersey in the film, a number which is generally reserved for the best strikers in the team. Popular footballers Ronaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez are some of those who have donned the famous 'No.9'.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher plays the role of a Bengali football coach named Vishwajeet Sarkar in the film, which traces the journey of a youngster who loses all hope in his life, but subsequently turns his life around with extreme efforts.

"Kaanu", slated for 2016 release, will be produced by Sai Sapney Entertainment and presented by Gaurango Filmcraft Academy.
