Mangaluru, Nov 14: On Children's Day, here is a story of a bunch of brave little kids who accomplished the extraordinary feat of creating a water source for their village. People of Panapila in Dharegudde gram panchayat in Moodbidri had been facing lot of hardship in getting enough drinking water. They have been asking for water since long. Surprisingly, their demand was recently met neither by the local administration, nor by people's representatives, but by the children of the village! These kids, who worked beyond their limitations, and despite all the danger, made sincere and determined bid to find a lasting solution to the water problem of the area.

Nine children of Panapila came together and dug an 18-feet-deep well within two days and struck water. This feat, which no one could have imagined as possible, has brought to the fore the capacity of the kids.

Ten houses in Guddalpalke area in Panapila had been suffering from scarcity of drinking water since the last several years, but no solution was in the offing. Since a year, the people of the area often discussed about the practicability of digging an open well, but it had not materialized. Nine children, who understood the plight of the residents of their area, came forward to come to their help. When the children began to dig the well, many had scoffed at the children, saying that they had taken up an impossible task. But the children, not letting their spirits to be dampened by discouraging comments, went ahead, worked hard, and did the impossible.

Prasad (15), and a ninth standard student named Dixit, were the brains behind this mega project executed by the children. A seventh standard student, Deeksha, Nagesh studying in sixth standard, Bhavya, Sulochana from the fifth standard, Deekshit from the fourth standard, and Suhan, a third standard student, joined hands with the first two and dug the well. Eight of these students are students of the zilla panchayat higher primary school at Borugudde and government high school at Aliyoor.

These children overheard the prediction made by a local about the presence of underwater source at a spot, and decided to dig the well there. On last Sunday and again on Tuesday, which happened to be a holiday on account of Deepavali, these children continued digging the well. The fact that they hit clay at the spot under the ground made their task easier. After the well was almost dug and water was struck, two elders from the village lent their hands to the children.

A hint for youths those who involved directly in yesterdays riot. Keep away from local politics, be concentrated on the developments of your area in your style & passion. See the smile from the above children that they achieved a great work. Smile is there in your hard work, but cry is there in your bad work. Remember... be smart & be happy.

    Happy Children's Day 14-11-2015,
Nine children are enough who had will to do it and they achieved to dig the well and Provide water to the the people of Moodbidri, like wise, this is a lesson BD and VHP should learn from these children. Shame to our Political Parties not only BJP but Congress and all others. Now they have to jump into that well with little water efforts of children and commit suicide. All of them in a row should be pushed inside. When the thirsty people were seeking help from these so called leaders, the children did it in two days what the country could not do for many many years. They should be at least awarded for their feat. Only Daijiworld News Agency can do it for they are always alert and gives us true information. Congrats to Daiji Staff too.

brother first forget the word kill & emotion. I think you said for all communities who plays politics in communal...Good thinking. Anyone who is taking advantage of politics should not be encouraged by us. They should shamed of their own activities comparing these children. All of us should proud of the children done. If any bundh happens we must give hands to these kind of good habits. I remember now my school teacher told in Japan A footwear company labors started strike but they continued the work by doing foot wear of left leg only. After the strike over, they finished the right leg foot wear in time. There was no loss to company neither the labors.

The children have done a tremendous job. Hope they get rewarded for the hard and smart work. My sincere congratulations to them.

However, I see two major issues here.

The first one is child labour. Some of the children are very young. Surely the children would not have conceived the project. We do not find the just anywhere we dig. So there must have been several adults involved in planning and executing the project - with children providing the labour. It is inconceivable to think that there was no adult participation. In such a case, such adults are very irresponsible to make use of the child labour.

This leads me to the second point: safety.
There have been many, many cases of the walls of the wells collapsing. Many people have died in the past in our district while digging the wells. It is a miracle that these children are safe. Again, did the adults around provide any kind of safety to the children? If not, how irresponsible are those adults?

PS: I say these things because my own parents got me to do many extremely unsafe things. Children - out of sheer innocence - just do the things to please the parents and other adults.
