Mangaluru, Nov 14: In a tragic incident, a woman along with her two children allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Netravati river at Boliyar near here on Saturday November 14.

The deceased have been identified as Annapurna (33), and her children Parashuram (10) and Kumari Tara (13).

They were from Saundatti town of Belagavi and were employed as workers in a plantation belonging to Ismail in Boliyar for the past one month.

The bodies have been shifted to Wenlock hospital.

It is learnt that Annapurna had come to Mangaluru from her hometown accompanied by her children and her paramour Ashok. Sources said that her husband had a family of his own and there were about 30 people living in the house, which led to frequent quarrels between the couple.

Annapurna and Ashok reportedly met about six months ago while grazing animals, and soon became close. Annapurna's husband came to know about this, and allegedly threatened to kill both of them. Annapurna and Ashok then decided to elope and came to Mangaluru three months ago and started doing coolie work here. They shifted to Boliyar about three weeks ago.

It is gathered that for the last four days, Annapurna used to go to the river alone and come back, and on Saturday early morning, she went their with her children. She tied the children to her waist with a cloth and then jumped into the river. The bodies were hence found at the same spot.

In this connection, the Konaje police have taken Annapurna's paramour Ashok into custody for questioning.

Annapurna's family has been informed about the incident.

Konaje police have registered a case.

Jossey Saldanha, "Ache Din" is slogan used by a national party. What this has to do with the mother and two children in a Congress ruled state?

Please resist from doing derogatory comments. Please don't sell yourself on death news.

Make use of your time to pray for their soul.

Indeed a very sad episode in the lives and history of three unfortunate people. There must be some serious reason for the catastrophic triple suicide.

The police will probably solve the mystery.
