MCC conference on Smart City project on Nov 16-17

Mangaluru, Nov 15: "Mangaluru City Corporation along with Nispana Platforms will be holding the second edition of Sustainable Smart Cities India conference on November 16 and 17 at TMA Pai International Convention Centre. City corporation officers, elected representatives and all general public should make use of this conference to prepare ourselves for the Smart City,” said Dr HN Gopalakrishna, commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation.

"Modelists and technological experts who have implemented smart cities in various part of country and internationally will provide suggestions, solutions on how to implement smart city projects to the officers and to different stakeholders in the city. MCC received nearly 40,000 suggestions and responses on smart city project. Nearly 500 people including college students and stakeholders will take part in convention," he said.

He also said that MCC mayor and council have permitted 60 corporators and 40 MCC staffs to take part in the two-day international convention. The programme will be inaugurated at 9 am on November 16.

He further said, "We have received several suggestions from people. We have also finalized the vision statement. This convention will also be helpful to prepare the proposal for the smart city project. We are working on the final proposal at present. By November 30, the proposal should be submitted to the HPSC of the state government. By December 15, it will be submitted online to the union government."

He also said that MCC has written to the government for fund approval. The proposed budget for this convention is Rs 75 lac, he added.

"Mangaluru has got very good vision for smart city project. People from different cultures are
living here. We also had the opportunity to go through the proposal that the city had already made and which is very impressive. We want to thank the people for their valuable suggestions," he said.

Gideon Schmerling, director, Tel Aviv Yafo Municipality, Israel said, "Smart city is not only about technology but also how the city could provide a better service to its people."

Identifying Smart City concepts for a smarter infrastructure
Discussing the pan city and area based development projects
Optimizing city resources and improving its efficiency with apt technology
Developing self sustaining cities.
Building inclusive and safe city
