Kasargod: Elderly couple killed in accident near Hosangady, five injured

Kasargod, Nov 15: Two elderly persons were killed and five others including children injured in an accident near Hosangady, Manjeshwar here on Sunday November 15.

The deceased have been identified as Umesh Mayya (70) and his wife Sharada (65), residents of Heroor in Bandiyod.

It is learnt that seven of a family including Umesh and Sharada were travelling in an Alto car from Mangaluru to Bandiyod. When they reached a checkpost near Hosangady, the car went out of control and hit a parked tanker.

The tanker was moving from Mangaluru towards Kasargod and was parked by the roadside near the checkpost when the Alto rammed into it.

Five others persons who were in the car sustained injuries and admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru. They have been identified as Shobha, Chidananda, Parvati and children Sangeeta and Manvita. 

Speaking to daijiworld, the family said that they were grateful to a few Muslims who rushed to their rescue at the accident spot and shifted them to hospital, and even arranged blood for them.

Manjeshwar police have registered a case.

    By the way, Hosangady is in Kerala state and people of all faith in the state are always in good harmony. The religion never comes between of anything in their day to day life and all dealings.

    That is the beauty of Malayala Mannu (Kerala soil).

    It is sad story in the lives of two senior people.

    The silver lining is that some well meaning Muslims rendered first aid to the survivors and helped them to be shifted to a hospital. This is indeed a great humanitarian job. This is the way it should be .... Hindus - Muslims - Christians or people of any other denomination. All are children of Mother Earth and have an obligation top help people.
