Bantwal: Woman stabs inebriated husband to death, arrested

Bantwal, Nov 17: A woman allegedly killed her husband after he came home in a drunken state and picked a quarrel with her late night on Monday November 16. The incident was reported at Veerakamba here.

The deceased has been identified as Vasu Shetty (45).

It is learnt that Vasu came home drunk on Monday night and started quarrelling with his wife Shobha and also assaulted her. In retaliation, Shobha stabbed his chest with a pair of scissors, killing him on the spot.

Shobha is a former member of the local gram panchayat. Sources said that Vasu used to come home drunk every now and then and harass Shobha. The couple's two children were away at their's relatives' house when the incident took place, sources said.

The police arrived at the spot and arrested Shobha.

A case has been registered in Vittal police station.

    @IHM Mangalore,easy to say Keep calm and wait for the next day.one should experience it personally .when the man does this everyday and pick up quarrel without any reason,poures earned Money in the Money,comes home demands Food and Money what wife earns,comes a time even for a calm woman ,to Show that he cant do everything as he wants.Doesnt mean should kill.but in a effect can happen when with weapon he Comes and attacks her.sure,she has done it wrong.And later she must have felt sorry as he died.In many homes it Comes to deaths due to alcohol,sometimes drunken one kills,or home People cant tolerate daily quarrels and want to get rid off .Drunker doest understand this at that time with all good tips given to him,nextday he wants to improve,but Forgets it when liquor goes down his throat.may his Soul rest in peace.Hope the Lady will get a mild punishment.

    Rita, It may not be an intentional happened. But she could have kept silent and spoken him next day morning. At the end she is alone in life.Though he was drunk since many years he did not take the life of his wife. I used to remember when i was in Erfurt,which is in Thuringen i used to see an old husband and wife simply fighting but very next day both of they will go for morning walk,and they will wish me Guten tag... it means all these are part of life and it will vanish after some time. That is life and thats what is life.

    Alchohol habit is the worst menace in our society. It has ruined many families in our society. For the poor cheap quality is available and for the affordables that too is available anytime anywhere. It is sickening to witness a drunken person behaving inside house. I really pity this woman what she must have gone through before committing the life of her husband.

    Drunkenness/Alcoholism on the part of the head of the family is the worst possible tragedy/curse, which could affect a family in many negative ways.

    I have personally across two such affected families which were on the verge of disintegration due to frequent quarrels between the head of the family and his spouse and children, respectively, besides leading to huge financial, health and social setbacks.

    However, once the person totally gave up the drinking habit (which is likely only in extremely rare cases), there was a sea change in the situation, with a happy ending for all the family members!

    There are many similar Shoba is around us and every day tolerating drunken husbands harassments.
    There is a limit for everything.
    What Shobha did is right.

    For Shobha, this might be "The last straw on a camel's back." When the water level in a dam reaches danger mark, it bursts. So is with a patient man and that is the reason our elders have said "Of all, beware the fury of a patient man." Once the limit crosses, the patient man becomes most dangerous, when, Akhrosh (uncontrolled anger) sets in. Hope, judges will take her case leniently.
    I do not condemn Vasu, since God said "Do not condemn others, because you do not know in which storm I made him to walk."

    The victim husband might have taken wife threat easy.
    Shall we ban alcohol... all our fundamentals will say no but yes to Beef. That is because of intolerance. The lady did committed this crime because of that.
