Udupi: Lions Club holds traditional Deepavali celebrations

Udupi, Nov 17: New traditional attire, illuminated lighting, twinkling lantern lights, attractive world of Goodu Deepas, rejoicing atmosphere for the guests arriving from distant places, crackers, decorated cow waiting for Pooje, Tulsi pot and priests waiting for festival prayers, was the scene of Deepavali celebrations held by Lions club at Kaup Uliayaragoli.
















In these days when festivals are confined to display of status, the Lions district 317C tried to showcase in Kaup Uliyaragoli how our elders were celebrating Deepavali.

Janapada scholar Kamalaksha Bhat and Srinivasa Bhat under the guidance of Bannanje Babu Ameen conducted religious rituals. Tulasi Pooje, Laxmi Pooje and Gopooje were held on the occasion.

In between festival atmosphere, singing, dance and felicitations, there were competitions for young and old alike. Special achiever Belapu Deviprasad Shetty was honored under the leadership of special guest Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake. Couples in traditional attire were handed over prizes. Goodu Deepa competition, crackers and Rasamanjari programme gave additional cheer to the celebrations. Delicious festival meal was served in the end.

District Lion governor Sridhar Shenava and Jyothi Sridhar Shenava led the celebrations. Lions district organizer Harish Nayak Kaup, Nadikere Rathnakar Shetty and Shanker Shetty Muniyalu had organized the programme.

Kaup Lions president Yogesh Shetty Balaji, Muniyalu Lions president Hebbar, District Deputy governor Diwaker Shetty Bhadravathi, Ujjanappa Davanagere, district Lions leaders M N Hegde, Jayaker Shetty Indrali, Dr A Ravindra Nath Shetty Katpadi, Madhusoodan Hegde, Shivanna Bhayar, Nirupama Shetty, Preethi Nayak, Gopinath Bhat and others were present.
