Kundapur, Nov 20: In a tragic incident, a man who was returning to Bengaluru after conducting the last rites of his brother died in an accident in the wee hours of Thursday November 19.

Raghupati Poojary (42) from Hemmady here, who was running a shop at Bannerghatta in Bengaluru, died after his car overturned at Gudde Maranahalli in Magadi near Bengaluru.

About three days ago, Raghupati's elder brother Sheena Poojary (45) passed away at his residence in Hemmady here following prolonged illness. Raghupati along with his wife Sharada and their two children came to Hemmady for the last rites, in his Santro car driven by chauffeur Guruswamy.

After conducting the final rites of Sheena Poojary, the family left for Bengaluru on Wednesday evening. At around 3.30 am, when they reached Gudde Maranahalli in Magadi, the driver lost control of the car and it overturned, it is said. Raghupati who was in the passenger seat in the front sustained critical head injuries and died on the spot. His wife, children and the car driver escaped with minor injuries.

The body was taken to the mortuary at Kundapur government hospital. The last rites will be conducted in Kundapur itself and relatives from Bengaluru and Mumbai are expected to arrive on Friday November 20, sources said. The family is in a state of shock having lost two of its members in a span of just three days.
