Udupi, Aug 15: The district administration is striving hard for the over-all development the district. A master plan for ‘Udupi-2021’ has already been drafted by the district administration, for this purpose, said Dr V S Acharya, district in-charge minister.

He was addressing the gathering on the occasion of the 60th Independence Day celebrations held at Ajjarakad ground, organized by the district administration.

Sea erosion during rainy season and damage of national highway as a result of the plying of manganese ore-laden lorries are the major problems in the district to be given importance in the coming days. At the same time strict actions will be taken against the anti-constitutional and ant-progress elements, he warned.

Udupi district is known for academic excellence and developments in medical field. To supplement this, discussion will be held with union railway minister to start passenger trains between Mangalore-Bangalore and Mangalore-Mysore, Dr Acharya added.

Freedom fighters Shambhu Shetty, K Lakshminarayana Sharma and Manna Saheb were felicitated on this occasion.

Deputy commissioner Ponnuraj, district superintendent of police Dr Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, ZP CEO Hemalata and others were present on the occasion.
