Mangaluru, Nov 20: More than two years after he was arrested, Gangadhar Padubidri, who was working as a reporter for Doordarshan (DD), has been acquitted of the charge of killing his wife.
Gangadhar had been arrested after his wife Mamatha Shetty (32) was found murdered at his sister's house at Kodikal on July 15, 2013.
On Thursday November 19, the first additional district and sessions court absolved him of all charges.
Urwa police who had registered the case had filed the charge sheet in the court. The defence counsel argued that the prosecution had presented no evidence to support the claim that there were differences between the couple and that Gangadhar was present at the scene at the time of the crime. The defence also contended the investigators had not done a thorough job, and that there was sufficient proof to suggest the presence of other family members in the house at the time of the incident.
Senior advocate Tonse Narayana Poojary, Satish K, Mitesh Poojary and Mohammed Farooq argued on behalf of the accused.
