Mangaluru, Nov 20: In the wake of certain incidents over the past few days, the district administration, with a view to maintain law and order in Dakshina Kannada, has imposed ban orders on all public programmes and protests till midnight of November 27.

The order issued by deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim states that after the untoward incidents in Kodagu district recently (on the occasion of Tipu Jayanti), the DK district administration had called for a meeting November 11 with higher police officers and revenue officers and discussed the law and order situation in the district.

Thereafter, on November 12, following the incidents of violence in Bantwal, a tense atmosphere prevailed in the district and to prevent further trouble, Section 144 was imposed from November 12 night to November 15 night. 

"With all such incidents happening, different organizations and communities held different protests and processions and also called meets, which were used as a platform to create unnecessary confusion, make provocative speeches and thus pave the way for more untoward incidents. Even though the accused in various incidents have been arrested, there may be protests against the arrests which may lead to law and order problem. 

"Hence, to prevent the disruption of law and order in the district again and to maintain peace, all social, religious and political programmes and open meets as well as protests, rallies and processions will be banned until November 27 midinight," states the order.

"The ban order was already in place until November 20, but now, after review of the situation, as minor incidents have been reported at various places as per the report by the police commissioner, the ban order has been extended till November 27," a press release from DC adds.

In special cases, prior permission could be obtained from the district administration, the release states.
