Mangaluru: KSTDC's city tour covering tourist spots in district soon

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 21: Karnataka Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) plans to introduce city tour on the lines of the ones already in operation at different places in the state, to enable people coming to district to visit tourist and pilgrimage spots without any hassles. This information was given by tourism minister, R V Deshapande, in reply to a question posed by MLC, Ivan D'Souza, during the question hour at the legislative council on Friday November 20.

The minister said that the city tour, which will become a reality soon, will be modelled after the ones already in operation at Bengaluru, Mysuru, Madikeri, and Hospet. The tour proposes to cover Suratkal, Panambur, Ullal, Someshwar, Kateel, Moodbidri, Tannir Bavi, Pilikula Nisargadhama, Dharmasthala, Venoor, Jamalabad fort, Subrahmanya, Bendrteertha, Uppinangady, and Shiradi.

He added that project report for development of old port area in the city and master plan for the coast as per Karnataka Tourism Vision Group's recommendations are under preparation. He said recommendations for simplification of Coastal Regulatory Zone norms have been already sent to the central government.

Rs 50 crore for 23 beaches

A plan to develop 23 beaches in the coast at an estimated expenditure of Rs 50 crore has also been prepared, and a programme to provide tourist guide training to 40 persons through Mangalore University has been planned. To encourage adventure tourism in the coast, surfing is being encouraged in Panambur beach, he added.

with (im) moral policing at its oeak in Mangalore-Udupi, Tourists will refrain from visiting Mangalore.

Secondly, the hotel tariffs are sky high for a sub standard hotels and resorts. Most of these places lack even a good swimming pool.

    Ivan D'Souza,

Please ensure all historical christian institutions and churches, best coastal eating places, are including as well.

Such tours should be conducted preferably by local private operators and not someone coming from interior Karnataka, B'lore etc.

If one travels from Mangalore to Goa by road, I suggest they take a 3 km diversion to the left from the centre of the town ( NH junction ). Drive towards the fishing warf / Light House and watch the coastline from atop the hill. The view is just breath taking. One has to be there to believe this. You would never get such a view anywhere in Goa except may be from the Raj Bhawan at Dona Paula. The view of the Karwar bay
( beach ) from the Karwar DC's Bungalow and Suresh Mathias' Island resort at Kumargod Island, 4 kms off the Karwar coastline too is breath taking.

Talking of Tourism, in Karwar City try the Amrit Restaurant for Oyster Masala fry and other fresh sea food dishes.

Dear Purandar, We need to begin somewhere, some time. why not now. History has shown us every politician from every party has made his money. We need to fight that angle differently by not jeopardizing the schemes like tourist spot development. Even if we can get 50% of what is proposed, Mangalore will not be a backward place for tourism. While we all need to raise our voices against corruption, we need to unite and fight the moral policing side by side too. Energise yourself to serve Mangalore and its interests, selflessly.

Very good initiative by the govt....has good scope and helps tourists visiting the coastal dist.
My humble request to the concerned to include Bappanadu Sri Durga Temple Mulki also for visiting place. This is ancient temple importantly place named after a muslim devotee Bappa Beary who founded the temple. It is so heart soothing to visit and know the history of the temple in these days wherein communal activities on rise in costal dist.
