Chikkamagaluru, Nov 21: Condemning certain comments posted in a Facebook page which were not in good taste and were meant to harm the reputation of Sringeri Swamiji, both pro-Hindu and Muslim organizations filed complaints in Sringeri and Moodigere police stations. The police from the town, acting swiftly, arrested the person who posted these comments, identified as Munna Azhar, from Navilur in Dharwad.

In the meanwhile, security has been beefed up for both the Swamiji and Sringeri Math. MLA, D N Jeevaraj, has urged the government to get the case investigated through the cyber crime cell and take stringent action against everyone involved with the incident.

Munna Azhar, who does painting work for a living, had made derogatory comments in a Facebook page against Sringeri Swamiji on Friday morning. Various organizations, apart from BJP and Tipu Sultan Sangha had filed complaint in Sringeri police station and held protests.

The policemen who undertook investigation, found out through cellphone location technology, that Munna Azhar was in Navilur. They went there and took him into custody with help from local police. The policemen are yet to get concrete information about his native place, background, and other details.

Jeevaraj has urged both the chief minister, Siddaramaiah, and home minister, Dr G Paramehwar, seeking investigation through cyber crime cell and initiation of legal steps against the guilty at the earliest.
