Udupi, Nov 22: Beedi and tobacco Labour Union Udupi and Beedi workers association Malpe region staged a protest against anti-public policy of State and Central government in front of Tahasildar’s office Udupi on Saturday, November 21.
Vishwanath Rai, CPIM leader criticized the anti- policy of State and Central government and demanded to fulfil the following demands:
The government should not implement COTPA-2015 act before taking any rehabilitation measures to workers.
A State beedi workers commission should meet Central government to facilitate rehabilitation.
To appoint State-level advisory committee to discuss beedi workers' problems, to find solution and to form legislative facilities.
To form tri-party committees at district / taluk level.
State government should ensure monthly Rs 1,000 for non-PF workers, as per the pattern of West Bengal and Kerala States.
State government should withdraw its stand on monthly allowance of 2015-16 and should move order to pay pending allowance.
To pay scholarships in time under beedi workers welfare fund.
To pay balanced medical expenses which is pending from past three years and to bring liberal in vasati scheme.
